"Look, Madame, where we live, look how we live ... look at the life we have...The Republic has forgotten us."
Previous outbreaks of Ebola have occurred in jungle villages across central Africa from the Sudan to Liberia. That means each outbreak has been in a small isolated population and the disease has died out by itself or through medical containment.
The difference today is that Ebola has occurred in a large city where it was impossible to contain. Infected people have travelled to other cities in West Africa unknowingly carrying the virus with them. Hospitals in Africa are very basic with relatives attending the sick, bringing them food, and washing the sheets. There are myriad ways to contact human body fluids in such situations - simply kissing a sick patient is enough.
Handling a dead relative as you prepare the body for burial is normal and deadly.
Thats unfair and wrong.
So far there is no known vaccine for Ebola (or Marberg either) although its been worked on for years by CDC and USAMRID.
Similarly there is no vaccine for AIDS despite the ravages of this disease in wealthy Western populations. There are however medicines which slow AIDS and despite the cynicism about drug companies, these treatments are available in Africa.
What happened in the villages was that food would be placed in the door of the victims house, if the food stopped being eaten, they'd call out. If there was no answer they'd set fire to the house. Simple but effective.
That can't work in a city. There has also been a huge amount of misinformation going the rounds, "The disease was introduced by space aliens". "The medical staff are spreading the disease," etc etc. To be fair the doctors must look scary in all that kit. Also the families want to bury victims according to custom, not just have them thrown in a pit as is currently necessary. The locals are not always cooperative.
Last time there was an outbreak I consoled myself with the thought that I hadn't been anywhere that I could have caught the disease. One night I was dozing on the couch and I became aware of the word Marburg being used repeatedly. I opened my eyes to see a picture of the Marburg Landgrafenschloss. The castle is now owned by the university, part of it is a museum, another part apparently houses monkeys and had experienced an outbreak of the disease. At that time I had been to the museum not long since.
There have been school groups from Europe visiting West Africa, sports teams from there are competing around the world, it would seem a considerable element of luck will be involved in containing the disease.

"The 1918 flu pandemic (January 1918 – December 1920) was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic, the first of the two pandemics involving H1N1 influenza virus. It infected 500 million people across the world, including remote Pacific islands and the Arctic, and killed 50 to 100 million of them—three to five percent of the world's population—making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history"

Is it still beastiality if ya fuck a frozen chicken??
A pretty concise summary of the outbreak and it's progress can be found here.. http://www.corbettreport.com/ebola-p...investigation/ along with an interesting video of the serum creator joking about the potential for culling the world population.
I know from previous experience here that some of you sheep are rabidly resistant to any suggestion that people should have the freedom to decide that the risks of taking vaccines outweighed the risks of not taking them. As I recall it was suggested that those who were concerned about side effects from practices such the use of mercury and monkey glands (that helped spread AIDS) in vaccines were selfishly putting others at risk.To those of you who fall into that category, You need to start educating yourselves rather than blindly accepting the status quo.
Remember the big fuss about the swine flu that triggered those discussions a few years back?? Well it turns out that it was just a pack of fear mongering lies promoted by the WHO to suck you sheep into filling your bodies with more toxins and enriching big Pharma. Don't believe me Read it and weep (educate yourselves).

andScientists who drew up the key World Health Organisation guidelines advising governments to stockpile drugs in the event of a flu pandemic had previously been paid by drug companies which stood to profit, according to a report out today.
An investigation by the British Medical Journal and the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, the not-for-profit reporting unit, shows that WHO guidance issued in 2004 was authored by three scientists who had previously received payment for other work from Roche, which makes Tamiflu, and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), manufacturer of Relenza.
City analysts say that pharmaceutical companies banked more than $7bn (4.8bn) as governments stockpiled drugs. The issue of transparency has risen to the forefront of public health debate after dramatic predictions last year about a swine flu pandemic did not come true.
Some countries, notably Poland, declined to join the panic-buying of vaccines and antivirals triggered when the WHO declared the swine flu outbreak a pandemic a year ago this week. The UK, which warned that 65,000 could die as a result of the virus, spent an estimated 1bn stockpiling drugs and vaccines; officials are now attempting to unpick expensive drug contracts.
The cabinet office has launched an inquiry into the cost to the taxpayer of the panic-buying of drugs.
Today, the Council of Europe, produces a damning report into how a lack of openness around "decision making" has bedevilled planning for pandemics.

Stop being sheep. Yes ebola is an incredibly scary prospect, but don't be led by your nose ring. Use your brains and don't trust mainstream media to tell the real story. They seldom even tell the truth after it is discovered (because they don't want us to know they spread lies in the first place) and that leaves us thinking that they are infallible, when in fact they constantly mislead us with half truths and outright lies. They don't do investigative journalism any more, they just accept lies at face value and pass them off as fact.Strasbourg, 04.06.2010 The handling of the H1N1 pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), EU agencies and national governments led to a waste of large sums of public money, and unjustified scares and fears about the health risks faced by the European public, according to a report by the Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) made public today in Paris.
The report, prepared by Paul Flynn (United Kingdom, SOC) and approved today by the committee ahead of a plenary debate at the end of this month, says there was overwhelming evidence that the seriousness of the pandemic was vastly overrated by WHO, resulting in a distortion of public health priorities.
Presenting his report, Mr Flynn told the committee: this was a pandemic that never really was, and described the vaccination programme as placebo medicine on a large scale (see video below).
In its adopted text, the committee identifies what it calls grave shortcomings in the transparency of decision-making about the outbreak, generating concerns about the influence of the pharmaceutical industry on decisions taken. Plummeting confidence in such advice could prove disastrous in the case of a severe future pandemic, it warns.
In particular, the WHO and European health institutions were not willing to publish the names and declarations of interest of the members of the WHO Emergency Committee and relevant European advisory bodies directly involved in recommendations concerning the pandemic, the parliamentarians point out.
However, attending the meeting was Fiona Godlee, the Editor-in-Chief of the British Medical Journal, who told the parliamentarians that, according to an investigation by her journal, scientists who drew up key WHO guidelines on stockpiling flu vaccines had previously been paid by drug companies which stood to profit.
The WHO has been highly defensive, the committee said, and unwilling to accept that a change in the definition of a pandemic was made, or to revise its prognosis of the Swine Flu outbreak.
Political correctness: a doctrine which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd from the clean end.
You're running a whole bunch of different arguments here.
1. Vaccination vs anti-vaccination: The science is robust. Vaccines work, save lives and make humans healthier for longer.
2. Ebola. It's contagious and it kills large numbers of vulnerable people. As yet there isn't a "cure" for it. Whether it will cause a global pandemic remains to be seen.
3. "Big pharma": Pharmaceutical companies make drugs and profit from that. But I have yet to see any evidence that they are conspiring against humanity.
4. Mass media isn't reliable: Well neither is "the internet" and bogus data (like vaccines and autism) that has been long-since refuted by credible science.
None of these 4 are related, other than in the minds of conspiracy theorists.
"Standing on your mother's corpse you told me that you'd wait forever." [Bryan Adams: Summer of 69]
I think it has mutated as posted earlier, previously it killed its victims very fast limiting exposure to others. When someone is violently ill like original Ebola people no matter how uneducated aren't going near that.
But the new strain where it takes longer to show what it is has led to more cross infection.
The real culprit is prob western aid agencies moving quickely around between villages at start of outbreak before they new.
All the 'isolation protocols" are all about protecting the person wearing the PPE gear too. Those wearing PPE gear are then mobile infection units unless they undergo rigourus decontamination procedures.
Someone pointed out to that they ones transported by air had no device to recapture the exhaled air by the victim...
