    FZR250 temp switch

    Hi guys,

having a problem with my bike radiator fan,

Pretty much it never turns on, my understanding is that there is a temp switch that activates it when the guage reaches a certain temp.

Im guessing its a temp switch issue since the guage works fine and i tested the fan with an external battery and it worked fine.

I took the bike apart trying to find this switch by following the fan wire but no luck.

Any ideas of where it is and what it looks like

is it something like this thats connected to the temp housing?

any help would be great !

No specific knowledge of that model, but yeh that is generally what they look like, probably easier to follow the plumbing around to find out where that'll be. It's often in the rad itself so a good place to start.

    Thanks

I found the housing, and the switch was in there, would you recommend i start with the replacement of that? or is there something else i should look into as well?

also recommendations on shops to find the part?

If the switching temp is below boiling, just check it with a multimeter and some boiled water.

another solution os fotting a manual over ride switch. very common mod, even on really late model stuff that seems to get hot and stay hot

i really want to install a manual swtich, but im confused as to how i should do this,

since there is only one wire output from the temp switch?

    mines looks exactly like http://www.ebay.com/itm/Water-Temper...-/181278510368

also confused on how to test this with the meter..

The housing/rad/frame ground is the other side of the circuit. So meter between bit with thread on it, and wire thingo. It might be you can just replace it with a manual override switch to ground, but I'm not 100% sure that is what the unit outputs.

after looking at that video i guess the thermo stat grounds to the frame. so a manual switch should be ok to replace with that lead and a ground i guess.

now to hunt for a waterproof switch..

checking those out, might have to just really tape them up to keep the water away.

also regarding the original temp switch, any place where i can buy a new temperature switch for my bike?

If the coolant in the Radiator ISN'T getting cooled ... the engine will be toast .... very quickly. Sufficient cooling may have been achieved by air flow through the radiator alone. (it IS winter ... even if you are in the balmy tropics of jaffa city.

What indications is the temperature gauge showing .. ???

What temperature should the coolant be when the fan comes on (I'm guessing 85 C) ... and does the temp' get higher that that .. ???

Does the gauge show temp in numbers .... or just green/red zone .. ??

"Midway" should not be an issue ... nor is "Hot" any real definition of any problem ..

No numbers. Not sure about temp and by hot I meant around 75-85% of the guage meter considering the red mark as the hot zone

found the problem, the sensor i showed earlier was actually for the guage,

this guy is the correct one, (well just looks close to it)

    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Dirt-...499797089.html

pulled out the pulg then connected the loose wires on the loom and the fan went on, also tried the hot water test with the temp switch and the fan was off, so thats the problem i guess.

and looks like a manual switch is going to be easy to install on this one.

    Thanks for help guys !

Try find another temp switch, much safer than a manual one because people forget.
Bike temp switching can have a massive variance in temp, I've had some that will go at 117 degrees and some at 80. All depends on the pressure in the cooling system if they can do it or not. So boiling water may not show if it is working
Many water cooled bikes that age will run around 86-94 degrees for a switch and you
ll find the thread will most likely be a BSP thread, so take your switch to a parts shop and order one that fits, play it safe and get an 86ish one
