Oh yeah I understand all that, was just talking about the google article. If they want to find you they sure can...
Talking technical stuff there was a great article recently about how the latest USA stealth planes can be detected by the minute interference caused to cell towers and triangulating the data also...

Read a few good articles recently about passive Wifi on the IEEE. Seems we now can have communications without power, provided there are signals already there going in the intended direction.

Works both ways. Still need a brain to interpret the data it seems. Which would explain why my dumb phone many moons ago used to say I was passing Mt Albert when I was in the city. Likewise the new phone occasionally takes photos at the Greenwich beach - but co-ords are for the tower a good 5 miles away in Long Island.

But yes - evidence is there, just needs a brain to interpret the results and switch the triangulation around.
Without the brain, 99.9% of the machines get it horribly wrong.

been on contract for years, but for me prepay is shitloads cheaper and better.
    like thefunctionality of smartphones,
but since I am a dumb cunt I break no matter what phone I have in weeks or sometimes a few months.........any make, expensive or cheap.....even the so called schockproof and waterproof ones.
(Am on my 6th this year )
If you're after a cheap, decent shock/water resistant phone, I had a Motorola defy xt for a couple of years, I'm hell on phones too. The first one lasted about a year before it took a forklift running over it to kill it, the second one had both the shock proofedness and water resistance tested within 5 minutes of removing from the box (fell off the dash of my truck when I opened the door and landed in a puddle, lol)with no apparent damage, the screen did crack eventually after about 6 months but I'd still have it if I hadn't lost it somewhere.

I had an Asha 300 & it was great. Now got an iphone 5s that came with contract.
The two most important things I need in a phone is good reception and battery life - the 5s sucks at both.
iphones / smart phones might be great for social networking but in my experience they are simply too fragile, bulky & power hungry for use as a simple phone.
