My family lived at Bucklands Beach, back then a remote community. My father and an uncle worked in the only industry on the peninsula, Eastern Buses. The family had a boat building shed, a crane used to lift the boats out of the shed, over the road and onto the beach. They were also fishermen, and a few years ago an uncle showed me a photo of them standing in a dinghy, only just floating...they filled the dinghy 3 times and ran out of room in the hold of the boat - had to leave the fish in the net and come back later after off loading in Auckland. That was inner harbour, probably just off Music Point.

With my close proximity to Queenstown ... most of the traffic is "Holiday" traffic ... at Christmas the fuckwits just get more common ....

I live in Birkenhead, and my elderly neighbour has lived in the area his "whole entire life" (fuck, I hate that expression). He was telling me how he used to catch snapper just off from the Birkenhead Point wharf, and the rowboat would be so full of fish it was in danger of capsizing. Then he couldn't even give them away; no-one wanted them, not even for compost for the garden.
Fucker. That's why the harbour's got farkall fish in it now, from greedystupidcoontz like him.

It was like that in the Iron Pot Napier when I was a kid. We would catch undersize baby Teraki by the bucket load and take it home to feed the cat...
