I have the Asus Memo Pad 7 HD. It does a good job for me (as my 2nd or 3rd device).

It was $180 for me, about 6 months ago. Make sure you get the HD one - with more storage - not the earlier/smaller one with the lower resolution screen.

The Asus covers are hard to find, and expensive. If you care about covers, don't forget to see what's available for whatever you buy.

What do you mean by "it'll be used for photos/videos" ?

The MemoPad HD has better cameras than the smaller/cheaper one; but I still wouldn't consider using it as a camera.

Just to display them... It'll effectively be a digital photo album as tablets seem to be cheaper & better than the dedicated devices

Gotta Samsung, piece of shit would not buy & quite thankful I didn't buy in the 1st place; would have kicked myself if I actually brought that over an iPad... Sony's a possibility but not to waste on a digital photo album

Yep, we have an Asus Memo Pad HD 7". Great for the kids to play games on and the wife to faff about on FB with. Camera/videos are passable.

Only real minus - During text entry it insists on autocorrecting upon space, even if you turn that feature off. Gets frustrating quick.

Plus the general menu/navi options are more cluttered, and less intuitive, than much of the competition. I think it's a hangover from their motherboard manufacture pedigree, where their market strategy seems to be 'make fairly good product, add on as many useless software/firmware dongles as possible'

Probably quite good then. I certainly grabbed mine because it had a higher resolution screen than any of the other cheap 7" tablets. Many of them have only 600 or 480 pixels across the short side! That's as sucky as the crappiest of the netbooks. The MemoPad HD isn't exactly "retina" - but I think it's got plenty of pixels.

Best place to buy covers for any brand tablet is ebay or amazon. Cost sweet F-all and you can get free shipping on many!
