    ZXR750 shock compatiblity 91-96+

    Hi all,

Anyone know if the P model onwards ZXR750 (ZX7r) rear shock will fit in a J model (91) frame ?... I can get a shock fairly cheaply, just want to know if the length and stroke are similar.

It's adjustable for compression etc and has remote resovior.

    Cheers,

    Sedge.

FYI: In case anyone was contemplating the same thing, it will fit and work with a slight notching of the battery box plastic for the remote res.

    Cheers,

Ah, probably talking to myself here but...

Been in the gge... didn't hook up as expected... Turns out my new shock is an 01 not 00 (N, not P model)... Which means I need to do some stuff to make it fit... I have to weld smaller diameter bushes to the 91 top shock mount bracket as the 01 top shock bolt dia is smaller (need a longer bolt too)... Also need to drill out the lower shock mounting holes to match up with the linkage shock mount / bearing dias.

The remote res is in a completely different position to the 00 shock so I'll have to faff with the battery box a little more than I thought, IE not just notch it, but alter the support bracket and raise the battery by 30-40mm ! Will just clear the air intake.

It should be fine once I've done all that, I'm using the 91 top mount bracket as it has more height adjustment than the 91 and the shock is around 10mm shorter... Will play around with the dog bones to get a reasonable ride height afterwards, heh heh, I've collected a few different lengths now

Ah well, it'll be worth it in the end, but it's never easy is it ?

We'll have to go for a ride when you're done. HAven't manged to catch with you or Munter in ages. Really want to see how the ZXR looks.

    Hey Jim2, what's happening ?

I dunno if It'll ever be done the way I'm going... Heh heh... A ride would be cool... Oh yeah, did Munter tell you ? The CBR is a different colour now...

I'm waiting for Frosty to get back to me RE a seat I bought so I can build a shorty tail unit for the beast... He never answers his email (are you there Frosty ?)

I've got about another month to go on the ZXR, just bought a compressor and gun so I can paint the thing... Spent the afternoon pretending to be a proper mechanic and sprayed dust around the garage with the air gun Ah, I'm so cool... I've got a compressor and an air gun (and beer, lots of beers )

What've you been up to ? How's the newbie going ?

I'll wake Frosty up for you Sedge.

I understand the "tool" thing completely. I bought a water blaster and I've removed a couple of sedimentary layers from my paths and BBQ area. It explodes slaters too. Muahahaha.

Tell Munter to post some pics!! I loved the front mudguard thing he did and I'm keen to see some more progress. It's cool that the CBR is still having attention lavished on it. I spent a fortune resurrecting it, so I'm pleased that it is still a "bike thang".
