    Re-assembled '86 GSX400e won't start

Hey All, I pulled apart my 1986 gsx 400e for the frame to be redone, I have finally got it to the point where it should just be turn key and ride however, with a brand new battery and new spark plugs it just cranks but never starts, with choke on it back fires ( and really loudly ) I put some starting fluid down the airbox incase the 4 week old fuel is stale but no go, still just pops and back fires, So i have fuel, and i have spark, and i havnt touched the timing, but now it refuses to start even with some start ya bastard, I have swapped the leads on the coils and that made no differance either...so a bit stumped?? the battery is on charge again, but its literally only a few days old
