Like so much of NZ there were questions and issues about how it was alienated from Maori. Fletchers had done a deal with the local Maori which was a win win: some housing for sale, some for the locals, everybody wins. Until a bunch of disaffected members not of the local tribe (is my understanding) decided Yeah nah, we are not happy, and since none of them have, you know, jobs or whatever, they decided to make some noise and garner some attention. They've tried to spin it as their generation's Bastion Point, which it is not.

Principally this is an intergenerational, interfamily argument. there is a good reason NO politician is touching this with a barge pole - even that useless cunt Soimun Brudgus sees it for the no-win scenario that it is.
