A decent mountainbike is around the 5k mark, then there's the shoes, camelbacks and maintenance costs. Twelve months later their worth about 20% of what you paid as everyone is upgrading all the time.
    Motorbikes are cheaper lol....

There is one question, do you wish to exceed 100km/h regularly.
If not then look at an adventure bike. My DR650 is well capable of embarrassing any sportsbike on a proper twisty road and that's on the standard tyres.
So one of the proper road orientated Hyper-Motards may be the go with the upright riding position and plenty od suspension travel.

(And for the record...they can certainly! still keep the modern bikes sweating on a twisty, bumpy NZ road)

Hands down, the BEST bike I have ever owned for daily use, abuse, fun and touring...and its does it all with a V4 growl to die for! (Once ya sort the muffler out lol)

-Look past the flash plastic modern bikes and start looking at the proven old school rides...they didn't get all those awards for nothing!, and there more bang for your buck!

...find me better all rounder!...I double dare ya!!
Lol, I've had mine since new 20 years ago and no its not for sale - why would you sell one eh? I know it would fit Jim perfectly too, especially as I fitted helibars to mine as I'm even more vertically challenged than Jim and I couldn't pull the seat closer like you can in a car so I brought the bars back closer to me. It still runs like new too and I'm not into noise so standard muffler all the way for me.
    Cheers

Many have tried to convert me to the house of "Adventure" and all have failed. I'm married. I already have something with a fat bottom end and spindly legs that costs way more than the satisfaction it provides.

You don't always have to ride the most tired horse in the stable, you can always get a rental ya know

I Honestly cannot rate the VFR range any higher JD...used to have a VFR400NC24 then a NC30 and thought that they were amazing bikes as well, test rode a 2000 800 and the newer VFR800 (04)...again, just amazing bikes!...but ever since seeing them on release, Ive always wanted the NR styled VFR750, and I intend to keep my current ride permanently!...hence I have recently bought a spare motor and many many! more parts in preparation for a wee "project" to freshen the old girl up and give her an extra spring to her step (two kids and a retarded dog to look after make it a distant project lol so just collecting lots of parts in the mean time lol)

Obviously a wise man with great taste Merv

...with nearly 140,000k showing on my ones clock...mechanic still says its a waste of time doing the tappets...they still ain't gonna need adjusting! (And she's still got great compression, no noise's or issues...just keeps on giving out the smiles mile after mile after mile....)

end of the day everyone has there own taste and preferences...but I highly advise people don't write the older bikes off to quickly.....the VFR's, RF's GSXRs and NINJA etc of yesterday...can still be an option to buy, and can still put a smile on your dial....truly hope you find what your looking for JD
