Bucket of the Month - November 2014 - KTM = Katie McQuick?

This account has been created to post a few articles and some info on here, there is an active audience as well as many 'passive' people who don't post but have some interest in things like this.
We'll see how it goes, there may be more later but at this point we'll have a go at posting a short article on one bucket every month or so.



For our First 'Bucket of the Month' we will take a look at:

Scott's new KTM powered creation.

It's a new build and currently still in the early stages of testing.
Scott has built a lot of race bike frames, many of them buckets but he also has the IMD250 Moto3 bike and some fast Formula 3 racers to his name. (Superlights)
Scott and the Palmy based GPR race factory have had much success with the more conventional FXR engines. They have built a host of fast bikes for Scott, the rest of the team and customers.
This bike is one of his custom frames, this time powered by a KTM that he managed to get in from the UK, he said the price was great, less than a standard FXR engine due to him cashing in a few favours.

The engine started life as a 125 so is a bit smaller and lighter than an engine designed as a 150, especially in the crank.
This thing revs quick, so much so that mass may have to be added to smooth out the power delivery.
To get it to 150 he had to re-liner the barrel, with this and some other modifications he's managed to pump out competitive horsepower already. He's keeping quiet about the exact number right now but it is comparable to, or more than, the current top bikes.

Stay tuned for more on this, it could be a real rocketship once it is set up and raced hard!

I will say it looks bloody swish...........And if it goes better than Scotts FXR did in the wet around Greymouth the bar is set pretty high......

Good idea to check out a few bikes and people. Rich said there was a lot of new faces out last weekend. I went and watched Caleb race motocross.
I must get onto the bucket and do some work on it. Have to many projects on the go at the moment.

I know that feeling! I hear rumours that you might also have an Austrian motor in the build?

Did you write to your local club to submit a full rule modification (along with reason and benefits) on your behalf? Better if you have multiple supporting signatures and complete the MNZ forms (to make it easier for your local club volunteer). Even better if you spell out every section that need to be amended, so they can cut and paste (at MNZ).
If not, then stop moaning like a old women Dave.

Meowlllllls..... slightly harsh Brent, Dave has lost two custom made crankpins used up a third of the worlds supply of NOS YZ100 pistons in trying to do it within a set of obsolete in this case rules.

P.s. And I have the other 2/3 of the worlds YZ100 pistons to try and build within the same set of obsolete rules (though all are still in their lovely new boxes stored for later use)...
