    WANTED: 250 bike under $2500

    Hi Guys & Gals,

I'm in the market for my first road bike.
Because I'll be doing a lot of riding on the motorway I would like one that can do 100km without too much of a struggle.
I also travel to Taupo often so I'm hoping for something thats ok for longish journeys.
Ugly is ok as long as its reliable, I aint too good looking anyways .

    Hope someone can help.

    Cheers

    Kevin

    Thanks for the advice

    Hi Ducatilover,

My brother gave me exactly the same advice, I'll make sure I stear clear of the GN's and SR's.
There doesn't seem to be much else on the market (in my price range) at the moment though.

When I first started looking I thought coming across an ugly but reliable bike would be easy ... how wrong I was!

Thanks again for your help & advice.

I have an ugly bike but reliable bike, except that if it is available it will only be in November...

Naked bikes are best for first bikes, less expensive if you come off.

I think with all the country riding you will be doing you should probably knock the Suzuki FXR150 off the list as well, can do 100 OK, but will struggle with quick safe overtaking...

    November ... bit too late

    Hi Gremlin,

Avail in November ... Hmmm ... I was kind of hoping to have something about 3 weeks ago.

If I'm still looking in November I definitely give you a bell though.

    Cheers

Hey mate, my bro just bought a zxr250 cause he wanted a sports bike. He also has a Kawasaki GPX with 40 000kms that he wants to sell. i think he was asking about 2400. It is really tidy and comfy to ride, good torque down low too. Much nicer to ride long distance than my zxr.
If you are keen, gimme a call and I will get you in touch with him. 021 412 813.

$1500, 4,000 kms. Ugly, but cheap.

    Hi Magua,

Yeah, I'm beginning to think a 125 or 150 might not be so bad after all.
Unfortunately the one you highlighted is in christchurch but there are some similar ones in the Auckland area ... will have to look into them.

    Thanks for the thought.

Yup, the gn250 is a good learner bike, but would be working a bit hard fir your trips. PERSONALLY for a learner bike, i would avoid anything with four cyclinders and a fairing. Possibly a VT250, v twin 250, has fairing, but cant think of any 250 that would suit your requirments that dosnt. *BRAINWAVE* Find a Honda Spada. Just my humble opinion, no doubt the 250 4 cyc learner boys will attempt to lynch me for these comments...

Avoid 125s and 150s if you want to do trips to taupo!
