    Hello fellow Kiwi bikers (Mike.B)

I returned to motorbikes after 35 years in the wilderness - an over protective wife who was able to channel all my free disposable income into horses, trucks etc. Now have new wife, totally supportive of my desire to relive my youth.
I've had this modern classic 500cc RE for about a year, progressed to R status and now have yet another year before I can go Full. This is the frustrating part, I want to get something newer in style and performance but all the good ones are outside the LAMS list. A MG V7 or a Thruxton are on my wish list but to have one sitting in the garage for a year makes no sense. Oh, what to do?

Welcome to Kiwibiker. Good to hear you have upgraded the wife lol
Personally, I'd ride out the year on the enfield and put the money saved from not upgrading to something you don't much want anyways and put it toward something you do want in a years time.

Don't worry about the noodle posting above, he is like the street kid that sees a blank wall, then puts his small minded tag on it, all the while wallowing in the misguided notion that everyone thinks he is cool

    Sugi,
Thank you for the sage advice and the keen observation about the "noodle". I suppose when you think about it, it's only 52 weekends, of which at least half would be too wet to rid in.
After all, part of the experience is the window (read TradeMe) shopping and reading the various reviews.

If you are of the opinion it is "Too wet to ride" on half the years weekends ... perhaps your ex wife knew more than you realized.

I might suggest Rider Training ... on how to ride with confidence in the wet. OR ... move somewhere with less rainfall ...

No matter how good the reviews are of ANY bike ... it won't change the weather forecast one iota.

Did your NEW wife increase your life insurance ... ???

I'm in a similar boat in that I find myself pondering on upgrading to something I don't really want (a "big" lams) in hopes that it will keep me satisfied enough till I get my full. And with the crazy prices of the lams (in most cases being pricier than some more than decent bigger bikes) doesn't help matters much. But I agree with sugi, wait it out, and save those dollars so when you get your full TradeMe will be your oyster.

You put up 35 years with less then ideal wife....

now you have 52 weeks ahead on lams approved bike....

    and the problem is.....?

plenty of good bikes on lams........
especially if you need to re adjust again to riding.......
Opinions are like arseholes: Everybody has got one, but that doesn't mean you got to air it in public all the time....
