£100 to get motorcycle back… from two streets away

A Carlisle couple were forced to pay £100 to get their stolen motorbike back – even though it was left just two streets away.

Phil and Amanda Glencross were woken by police to tell them Phil’s Kawasaki ZZR 600 had been taken from their back yard.

But although the bike was found only two streets away, police instructed recovery agents to move it to a place of safety.

Chief Inspector Mark Graham said it was police policy to instruct recovery agents.
“We can’t have a police officer standing guard by a vehicle indefinitely – it would be impractical,” he said. “The vehicle may also have to be forensically examined and when a vehicle has been stolen you don’t know what may have been done to it – it may be mechanically unsafe. We get them examined for safety issues.”

The crim should have to pay that, not the owner.
Too bad the owner didn't know, cause I would have been tempted to steal my bike back.
