    You need to look at the whole weight of the power plant. Depending on how far you want to go using that 1000 hp, the battery can get heavy. Our record setting electric hydro was lighter and around 20 mph faster that the same hull with IC engine power. The full throttle range was around 3 kilometers, just enough to get a 2 pass average through the kilo course.     Nearly all these engines suffer from the same problems. Sealing, high pressure combustion, and heat dissipation. The Carnot cycle's efficiency depends on temperature differences. The Otto cycle also depends on compression ratio. Even big turbines run into these issues without regeneration to recover lost heat. Small engines never solve these proplems as well as pistons even after a lot of work. My favorite example is the Wankel, but there are lots of others. Two dimensional engine drawings ignore the three dimensional issues that were solved over a century ago even with pistons made on less than precision machinery.
