Cop pulls you over & tells you/orders you to drive to the Police Station - Trust em?

Recently one of our local Westie cops, well hardly a cop - head hunter associate more like it, was convicted and sentenced for various corruption and meth charges.

One of the charges related to an incident where he followed and pulled over a vehicle that an associate wanted to steal. He ordered the driver to follow him and drive to the Police Station with the intention that his associates would then follow the victim-to-be from the Station and nick their car. Lucky for the driver and it being West Auckland the driver didn't comply. The prick was also helping his mates steal other things (most likely from other crims) including motorcycles.

So a question for our resident KB and non-corrupt cops, there's no legal requirement or obligation to follow an order or instruction to follow a cop to a station right? Would this ever be done for a legit reason (aside from a MVA)?

Lucky they picked the wrong person, as I could see a quite a few people falling for it especially if they were foreigners.

Don't know about cars but there is a specific provision for CVIU to order a truck to detour up to 4km or 20mins driving to go to a weighbridge.

Anything like you mention you could always ring 111 and say you think this cop is dodgy etc and you want another one present. I'm sure they'd oblige for how rare the circumstances are.
Bit rough to quote a one off special case and even think it would be an issue for 99% of NZ people ever...

Probably the same bunch of Rozza we are trusting not to give us tickets for going 1kph over the speed limit. Yea right.

There is one thing I have learnt is don't trust, talk to or help the Rozza.

And that's only if you're under arrest.

If you're just being detained at the side of the road, you're free to go as soon as they say so but they cant make you go anywhere else.

The road code only states that you must stop if requested, not follow to x location.

weeeeell, see, theres this thing about it being illegal to use a flashing red light when there isnt an emergency...
Add to that, that one, being not a person, is not compelled to perform under the judicature of legislation....
(yup, big words trip the ego of dumb cops. And then ax wins)
