Car stereo head unit. What to buy?

So Mrs Oakie and I are going to buy a new head unit for the car stereo this weekend. We want one with CD, Bluetooth, USB and radio but it won't be top end as while we like our music - we're by no means audiophiles. Any suggestions as which brands to look for / avoid or any other tips you can offer?

I'm looking for pretty much the same thing.

So far the best I have found is a Sony head unit for about $279 at Supercheap Autospares (no speakers)

The Warehouse have a similar unit bundled with speakers for a similar price - but it lacks the CD mechanism

you dont need cds any more get one with usb port and use your ipod or iphone

They are all ISO standardised these days unless you own some out of date old clunker....

oakie--what is the car? Sometimes its not a simple case of plug n Play.
I fit JVC head units which give good sound quality.If ts n older car I'd also concider putting pair of front speakers in.Fusions IMO offer pretty good bang forbuck
If you ive me the year/make/mode I can give you a head up on install tricks.

Yep and for anyone with Euro car/truck and those poxy funny size power points (they look like an RCA plug).... I hunted the internet far and wide to find and adaptor so I could plug my ciggy lighter 12v stuff, fridge etc into scania cab so I didn't have to buy an overpriced 24 to 12v converter.... Finally pulled the dash apart and theres nice simple blade connected plugs on back of both, viola ciggy lighter changed from 24 to 12 instantly!
