Books with routes, getting from A to B on the best roads there. That sounds like a plan

On the bike searching side, I got a buy-back offer on either a Suzuki bandit 1250 or a Yamaha FZ6
Buy for 6,000 buy back for 4,000. These were the most cost effective ones I could find but still out of budget.
So buy-back seems a no go.

Has anyone had some experience with Suzuki GN250s ? They seem to be sold a lot on trademe.

The dangers of keeping linament and lube in the same cupboard.

A very brief search will answer your question.

Be happy you didn't store any hot sauce in the same place.

Jup seems like an okay little bike, its called dull a couple of times but that's fine with me

    EDIT :

Its a bit girly but I like it, have sent out a message hope he's willing to keep it till January though.

    They are road lice ...

Hope you have a great time here. Be Careful - this country appears to be pretty seductive and lots of people come here but never go home ..

Brief search might have avoided that situation

GN250s are great bikes BUT you need to change the oil almost daily if you are using them for touring and they are already flogged out...

Just do yourself a favour and get something a little bigger..

GNN250 is a good learners bike... well sort

not the best tour bike. They will do at a push but are lacking in power for a 250.

    other 250's are better.

Most people I know who learnt on one said they took two or three weeks to get used to their next bike ... that tells me they are NOT good learner bikes ...

"sort off" is there for a reason, they are low, low center weight, not over powered and easy to start and stop on... Good to get used to looking out for cars, learning the road rules etc but what ever you go too after it will be different and need to get used to a different style of bike, but then no different to going from a sport bike to a tourer or cruiser etc

Well i am currently focussing on the earlier mentioned Honda 650, if it won't work out I'll check out the Facebook ads.
If I still got nothing by the time I leave I'll have to spent my first days finding something in Auckland, with the 250cc Suzuki as absolute lower limit.

I haven't overestimated myself yet on the dutch roads and with the leftside driving and small changes in giving way I will absolutely respect my own vulnerability as any motorcyclist should, thanks for the tips though!
Or do you had any specific dangers in mind for which to look out?

    Look out for tourists

Pretty sure we just have the usual hazards faced by motorbikes, SMIDSY, slippery tar bleeds and scenery taking your eyes off the road.
