    No. He just fawked up.
I'll agree they should engage their brain and drive away from the tricky blind corner they're hiding behind before doing a u-turn...

Considering everyday people are safely doing u-turns in open road speed limit areas for their license test, let alone everyone else, it shouldn't be a difficult maneuver for someone who pretty much drives for a living to pick a better spot and do it safely.

    He just made a mistake........

I drive for work, I do multiple U turns every day (yea I suck at finding driveways sometimes) and about 50,000km per year.... I haven't made that mistake, I've never been close to fucking up that bad...... But apparently I'm a bigger danger on the roads than cops, because I speed..... I'm about 100% safer speeding than this police officer is doing a simple task.

He would fail a license test for that sort of driving, he risked killing/injuring himself and innocent bystanders to ticket someone who was driving safely.

The police need a real thorough look at themselves.... Before assaulting police, resisting arrest and failing to stop statistics all go through the roof.

Enforcement of speeding causes more crashes than speeding itself.... Go figure (that was a stat I heard a few years ago and can't find the numbers now but something like half of all recorded crashes in an area involved a police vehicle).

I was coming back from Wellington last week and a cop in a very similar coloured car nearly did the same in front of me, lights went on, and he looked like he was going to U turn in front of a line of traffic which was not that far away, i got on the brakes as well fully expecting him to do something dumb, to my suprise he used his brian, and relised he could not make the turn, turned his lights off, and kept going

he had done something so retarded.
It was actually a 3 point turn he was attempting on a double yellow, checked out the tire marks myself.
Did anyone find out what the passenger in the cop car did for a living?

For those that don't know or have forgotten (it happened in April 2010...Christ I can't believe it was 4 1/2 years ago). Paul Brown (Browny) was NZ's first Supermoto Champion. He was killed when a retarded cop did a three point turn on the brow of a hill in a cutting on Waerenga Rd only about 100m from the intersection of Waerenga and Kelly Rd, to chase a supposedly speeding ute going towards Te Kauwhata. And yes, knowing Browny he wouldn't have been hanging about but that's NO excuse for what happened. Stop there next time you're passing...like I posted earlier in this thread...you'll shit yourself when you see where it happened. RIP Browny...I for one will never forget.

The copper in question has since been dismissed from the force I learnt, my complaint was one of several about the guy. But in a court with your word against that of a policeman stands no chance in hell of succeeding even if he's proven to be so poor at his job to be sacked of course, I would have no recourse for the fine and demerits I was given aye.

Well did the speeding driver crash? I speed every single day, sometimes by 10km/h sometimes by 100km/h (allegedly) but I never drive/ride at a speed that I feel I am in any danger. So no I don't believe the random motorist speeding was being unsafe, it would be very rare to get people driving too fast for their comfort zone.

I'll do a google for that stat, but I think it was central north island.

You said about half, that shows well in excess of half (152 vehicle crashes out of 250 recorded in the central district between 2009 and 2013)..

Thats an eye goughing shitload and a really poor reflection on that district - I wonder why it is so high. I'm guessing that all Police crashes will be recorded regardless of how minor/serious though, compared to general public who may have a prang and then exchange details and move on.

Yea I think single vehicle accidents would only get reported in the case of injury or destruction of property occurs and is noticed.

So yes I'd say there are hundreds of accidents which weren't reported. But those accidents were obviously of little significance if no injury was recorded. On the other hand, even a scrape on the bumper of a police car would be reported as a crash of sorts.

Only 100ish crashes reported to police in a 4 year period that didn't involve police. So roughly 25 crashes per year that involve 2 or more vehicles, sustained injury or caused damage to property and got reported.

Not at all horrendous stats.... Until you look at police being involved in collisions. If 2/3 of police crashes involve another vehicle, then police would be responsible for doubling the accident rate.

Ive missed something? Where did it say it was a speeding driver? Could have been a number of things?

What else do police actively enforce?

Have you ever ridden faster than your comfort zone? I bet the answer is yes, most people have. If you are out of your comfort zone, you (by definition) won't be comfortable staying at that pace. No one drives/rides beyond their comfort for extended periods, mainly in short bursts. The chance of a cop seeing you at the exact point where you exceed your comfort zone is very slight in comparison with the much more likely scenario of a driver cruising at a comfortable/safe pace.
