    Bike knocked over (Wellington)

So just went for lunch to find that my bike had been hit by a car/truck/something and was knocked back and has fallen over on to a sign post and smashed a dent in the tank .

I was parked in the large bike park on Hunter street in central Wellington.

Who ever has done it has been nice enough to stand it back up. But there was no note from the driver.

You can see where the side stand was pushed back as there is a nice scrape in the ground.

I am just a little pissed and not sure what to do.

Did anyone see this while they were in town this morning ?

Good luck in getting any satisfaction. It's endemic. My bike was knocked over last year, with a force which bent the footpeg bracket on the frame. It was back on it's wheels, but only because some residents of an adjoining apartment block saw it, and picked it back up, and came out to tell me they had when I came out. Never mind - half an hour with some spanners, and I could ride the 100 km home!!!

    ...that looks expensive

So sorry to hear mate, never nice when your ride gets banged up...even worse when its done by some prick who then does a runner.

Check the area for cameras, ask the nearest shops if they saw anything etc...hopefully someone witness this...poor bloody bike (Nice rides those old girls )

Sorry to hear that, it does look like a nasty dent.

Same sort of thing has happened to me over the years with other bikes I've owned and never once have I had a note left or a witness come forward. Never happened in a bike park though and I don't think the wind is strong enough today to have blown it over.

I've just had to suck it up and get the bits repaired or replaced, frustrating I know.

Yep, that is definitely the attitude.

Are you sure it wasn't the wind that caused the tip over and some nice person stood it back up for you? It is Wellington after all...

So many of the things that I want to say aren't really family viewing, but it isn't vaguely windy today and I'll leave it at that.

We really do need to fence you people off.

    Aaargh, one slipped out.

This is exactly why I refuse to leave a motorbike or car parked in a public place for more than a few minutes at a time. I'd rather have my cheap push bike fucked with than a comparatively expensive motor vehicle. It sucks if there's no alternative though.

From the photo, it looks as if your bike is about to fall over on its own....perhaps a good samaritan found it on the floor and picked it up for you? Hopefully that was the case.

This, and do it quickly as some people overwrite their footage sooner than they should. Let them know you can compensate them for their time too as motivation if they do have a camera looking over the park. It can take a bit of shagging around to find an incident on cameras.
