Why don't you try bump starting it? If it fires up, then you know it IS the battery.... or a flat battery as a result of a poor charging system.
Bump starting is really easy to try. You shouldn't be afraid of it, plus once you learn how to do it, you will end up using it on more than one occasion.
hi and a bit of a shame as it's xmas eve... however...
as suggested it could be the battery especially as the bike has been standing. Even if you jump start or charge, if the battery is the original chinese one, it's quite possibly buggered after that time period.
other possibilities are , starter motor is stuck 'putting it in 2nd gear and rocking it back and forwards a few times may release that if it is stuck.
there is also the possibility of the 'solenoid' if it's equipt with one..
other option as suggested is the bushes or maybe the contact brushes on the starter are 'corroded/dirty with lack of use....

You just have to make sure that when you throw your leg over the bike, that it actually clears the seat so you're not left with a leg stuck on the seat and the rest of you hopping alongside a moving bike which is moving faster than you can hop which leads to an inevitable lie down in the dirt. Don't ask me how I know this...

Gave it a break for an hour or two since it was just ticking and making a noise.
Went and tried it again and it decided to crank over, it just wouldn't "start" which is progress.
You can also smell the fuel as it tries to crank over.
