Have a search on here, there are heaps of threads on getting a license and all the stuff you need to know. I reckon I will get one before I am 60.

Basic skills for learners, once I pass I get a cert and go in to apply for learners theory (I think that's how it works?)

i passed basic skills with literally NO time on a motorbike.

theory is pretty easy, its the same as the car one, but with some motorbike specific questions thrown in, i got caught out on tread depth and maximum load extension on a bike.

the likes of riderskills etc are there to make sure you are safe to learn how to control a bike, and have enough coordination to not kill yourself straight off the bat.

its a good move to do a bit of a training session with the testing people first, gives you a bit more time to get to know them and the bike. some places will use your bike, others provide bikes. i did mine on a little gn125... thats how i learnt that they are too small, i couldnt walk properly for 3 days after doing mine, seat was waaaaay too low hahahaha

all i can say is just go do it. i've been riding now for about 4 weeks, and hell its probably the best thing i've ever done

I'm 6ft so if they give me a GN125 then my legs are fucked!

I'm 6ft2... it was.. uncomfortable, but do-able. My only issue was finding a lams bike in my price range that was big enough. If i put both feet on the ground and stand up on the cbr, it'd shoot out from under me LOL

oh well, its a fun bike, once you relax on the bike i've found its soooo much more comfortable

Basic skills, i passed having never been on a motorbike in my life, theory is easier, just have a good read through the roadcode and do their questions before you go and do the test.

    Process is:
    Basic handling
    present certificate at testing station
    pass theory
    recieve learners
    go have fun lol
