At least he put up the whole thing, and didn't just say ''Ooops, that's a fuck up, better not let anyone see that.'' In the real world that's what happens, things just don't always go to plan. Of course our KB keyboard heroes would do it perfectly. His drilling was dead centre, that seldom happens for me, so start a bit smaller. Seeing it was spot on, I'd go for a bigger hole and use the next size up tool. He was too gentle with the heat, it needs to be red. If it ends up a total cock up, then drill trough and use a bolt.

Those stud extractors looked pretty cool too, never seen them before.
I usually give up after I snap an extractor or drill bit and it wont come out, I end up taking it down to a mates engineering shop and have them do it.

Snap-On used to do then, but now there are plenty of cheap Chinese rip offs that are probably just as good. They used to come with a centering tool, if the bolt was snapped off below the body, you dropped it in the hole and drilled though it. That was cool, because getting a dot punch dead centre on a broken bolt is almost impossible.

I have had some similar extractors for about 40 years, all are broken except for a couple. A guy at work was struggling with a broken stud, so I said try this one, they are really cool and work better than those twisty things. He hammered it into the hole, put a Cresent on it, and the damn thing just snapped off! Fucking Aussie crap tools!

That getting it dead center is a nightmare, especially if it looks ok ish, then by the time you get a bigger drill bit on it and it is off center. Seems to make it that much harder to remove.
I have a td27 head here with 4 broken manifold studs that are proving to be a bastard. I may just try those splined tool and see what the difference is like.

And it looks like it will snap too if I keep going, just leaving it soaking in diesel overnight, then have another crack at it in the morning.
Looks like our local gas and tool has those splined ones, so may just wait until I have been there first.

I have some of these, they only come out for special occasions, and no one borrows them...I get selfish when I spend this sort of money on tools. The shank is 3 cornered, no way will it slip in the chuck, left hand drill bit...even that is sometimes enough to make the bolt spin out. The collar is wound back, then plunged in with a spinning drill. Awesome - if this doesn't work, then you are fucked.

It's an interesting channel. He was making a motor mounting plate and drilled a couple of holes in the wrong place. Did a couple of really good vids on how you fix that if you don't want to redo the work.
