No tolerance be fucked

Not sure what the laws are around new car speedo requirements, but I have never seen any car that reads low. I've seen speedos 10% out but it's always been reading high, ie reads 110 but doing 100. You might find they have to be within 10% but must read high if they are not accurate?

Incorrect. They are at their place of work so H&S regulations should apply. "No action or Inaction shall put anyone at risk of an injury". Obviously they should be getting taken to court for that alone but knowing them they are probably above normal H&S regulations.

I am not sure what the deal is here but then cars aren't made here so it is probably the same. In the UK speedos were allowed to read too high by a certain margin of error but were not allowed to read too low at all. Imagine the speedo saying 99 when your true speed was 104 and you got a ticket? No car manufacturer would let that happen so they pushed it the other way where it might read 104 when you are actually doing 99.

I am sure you will find something in relevant vehicle standards legislation but I can't be arsed looking cos Britain's Best Baker has just started.

Tell that to the dickhead plod who u-turned in front of a car and myself on my bike in the middle of a corner. Ceraintly some very hard braking by the car and a reasonable amount by myself. He then still carries on chasing the car he managed to ping going the other way without even a acknowledgement he did something stupid. The car going the other way was by no means travelling that fast that he needed to endanger all our lives.

I think I read somewhere that they are allowed to be out by a small margin under reading and by a large margin over reading. For a motorcycle speedo if I am remembering correctly a reading of 100kph is OK if the actual speed is at least 85kph but no more than 103kph. That means 15% out reading too high but only 3% out if reading too low. I think for cars it was 90-103 acceptable when the speedo read 100.

My Burgman 400 when I had it was out a bit, I took 10% off what it said to get my real speed. I could ride at 120kph and know that I was really only travelling at 108kph.
My ST1300 reads closer, no more than 5% out.
I haven't checked my DR650 yet, but I'm getting a Vapor dash and will endeavour to get it as close as possible to actual speed since it has to be calibrated anyway.
