    Britten rebuild video

Thought you thrillseekers might enjoy this video which features the rebuild of the Crepaldi Britten V1000 (the black/chequer yellow customer one).

I found it mesmorising - had to pause every few seconds for a good study of the bike (and enjoyed the obvious nervousness of the rebuilder regarding the "$50,000 crankshaft.")

Never fails to blow me away, that bike. Enjoy.

50K sounds excessive, I would have thought you could do a billet crank for less than that, where's Swarfie when you need him?

I've seen them often enough they don't hold any great attraction, how many of them will actually be running at the event (parade or otherwise)

The te papa bikes not there at the moment, maybe it's getting freshened up to run there too?

I can't remember how many were there but the John Britten memorial meeting had a quite a few on display

No idea how many will - or can - still run. Kevin Grant's one has just had a new(ish) set of cases. Actually one of two sets which were rejects but got kept as spares. The foundry patterns were lost post quake....

The crank ex Crower cost about 6 grand from memory. Pretty sure the rest were made in house. Couple of guys in ChCh would do you one for about 4 grand.

Last time I asked, the majority of the bits for the second "wideline" early version still existed - less engine. One for the collection Spyda ?

I though that one has a hole in the crank case that Andrew S put in there at Manfeild?
Not likely to run again unless they can find some more cases? I would say they can't as John himself never got it running again...

Makes a fine static display though, so most likely be at the Festival as a non-runner.

Maybe not to you, but I can tell you that the kids (Young racers in particular) who weren't even around when these bikes were ridden in anger, hang off your every word when you talk about them...
Well it may be just me... But I encourage you to engage with the future of our sport Kick.

They are actually genuinely interested in the history... Sort of makes sense, look at how many young guns rode at the Barry Sheene at HD.

But that guy Flettner of Uniflow fame on the Buckets forum seems to be able to cast just about anything in his back yard. If he can cast YZ250 cases why not Britten cases given summat to copy from?
