Stand to be corrected by the better informed (who can actually put forward respectable evidence to support their assertion) but they pretty much primarily exist to defend Israel. They collect intel and undertake missions to eliminate threats to Israel and in some cases their allies. Sometimes in a war, bad intel leads to bad decisions which have bad outcomes. The allies are guilty of this themselves.

to be honest, I dont know a whole lot about Mossad other than it's something to do with Israel.
