I think it raises some interesting questions about mental health, self-harm and the line between individual choices/rights and intervention.

"I want to be plastic" is clearly outside the realm of normal/healthy human thinking, and it is likely to have adverse health effects on him. If he was cutting himself, or even gambling himself to poverty, it would probably be stopped. Then again, people have unhealthy gym/bodybuilding obsessions, or unhealthy sex obsessions and that's mostly socially acceptable.

In general I feel like everyone has some form of vanity they indulge in so best not to judge (i.e. shaving your face/legs/arms/whatever) as it's all subjective - but then there are things like this so far from the norm that it seems almost cruel not to step it.

Just glad he's not my kid I guess.

Being that he's gonna be all plastic someday, when he does 'pop off' what then? Ya can't bury plastic, doesn't break down,. Cremation is outta the question as burning plastic is toxic, so what to do??? put him out with the recycling at the kerbside???

Most surgeons consider the mental health side of their patients before performing surgery. But if you shop around there's always going to be a few that only consider the finical ability to pay.
