Here's a real question. When did hair become "designed"?
because I have seen hair cutting shops that label themselves "designers" which I find odd.
Supplementary question: Did the use of "design" in this context come about solely because of the Talking Heads song "Warning Sign"? You will recall it contains the lyrics:

That link is a bit special, because it is from their rejected 1975 CBS demo session. You will note that at this point they are a three piece, Jerry Harrison has not yet quit architecture school to join the band. His keyboards really flesh out the early recordings, particularly given Tina's very basic skills at the time - the whole track has to be carried by David's git-box and Chris' drum kit and the vocal.
