New seal & loose metal entire length of Ranfurly Road Manurewa

    Careful out there folks.
Downers are resealing this road from one end to the other, Round About at Stratford Road end was completely covered in chip this afternoon, no signs up to warn any sort of motorist about the slip hazard.
Phoned Downers at 4pm'ish. Got through to a nice lady, who put me onto a bloke who I believe had the roundabout and road swept and appropriate signage erected.
He said, they want to know about this sort of thing and sounded genuinely concerned that their guys hadn't done a thorough job.
He also said, Downers don't cut their bitumen at all these days. IE: No Kerosene. They use a full bitumen emulsion 70 odd% Bitumen and the rest water.
Anyhow, ring them, they will respond.
I will be driving through again tomorrow and have been asked to report back to him, so I will.
    PS, Downers head office.
    Isabelle is their reception.
09 2510340.She was very helpful and got me to Paul on 0272097286 , who organised the road sweeping etc.
    Do It Peeps.
If it keeps our guys and girls upright it's worth the time to make the call.

Construction companies do take OSH very seriously these days. They could just as easily be fined by passing osh inspector.

Failing that they are responsible to the council in some way so a call to them saying that you have had no or a bad response from the construction company usually gets the ball rolling.
I may be slow at getting things but..... no wait I'm just slow.

Got a call yesterday morning to ask if I was happy with what they had done. I saw the tractor sweeping on Tuesday night so they did actually do it, signs were up and all was well with the world. They were very courteous and I ate a little humble pie when speaking to Barbara who rang to check that I had received adequate back up from her underlings.
Rather look/feel a little silly than come off or worse have someone I know come off in the dark on an unsigned unswept metal chipped to hell and back road.

Sounds like there was an instant response from the contractor and follow up so no need to go back to the council. From experience your best response will be from the contractor because they are out there and they have to care about all the H&S bullshit. Council staff don't really give a shit IMHO because they aren't going to lose their job over it.

It's my hood and many of my friends including my wife ride those very roads weekly, the pleasing thing is, something actually got done, the signs are up, the road markings are on and the loose chip has all gone. Best possible result from a couple of late afternoon phone calls.
    Merry new year Akz.
