    Great shame
theres a few like that. I noticed it too. Maybe we should also talk more about bikes, riding etc that would interest him/them again.

Sometimes things happen in peoples lives that changes the direction they are headed, or the people they associate with move on too. I am on this list, work and other activities mean that I will never become a full time rider.

Funnily enough before we bought our house and lived in a "less financially well off suburb" we never got any door knockers...
Oddly we bought into the poorest neighbourhood in a not terribly affluent township with no local chapter. We get a knock about once a fortnight.
    Mailbox stuffed every week.

Maybe we are a training ground where they send first timers so they don't waste the good people on our hood?

a rider I am, its always been in the blood, just the opportunities haven't been present.
Strangely thought if I had kids they would be riders to and I thought they would be girls too. Funny what you suddenly think of while riding.....
Yes I was concentrating on riding too.

I have 2 boys who want to be riders but lack the commitment.
I have a girl who has no interest beyond the occasional pillion.
I have two more girls who are not yet at school who really want a bike and make motorbike noises on anything they can throw a leg over including chairs they ride backwards, their ride on train and the ever obligatory plastic motortrike. They are however both frightened any time I start a bike.

My young nephew is a Thomas nut (aren't they all) But go anywhere near a real train OMG

Its the effect but they don't understand the cause.
Gradual leading them up to starting the bike will help.

Loud noises will always do that. I have grown up around loud noises so no worries.

Its only when you are concentrating and something startles you (noise or sneaking up behind you - I have pretty good pheriperial vision compared to most) when its quiet that gets my goat.

Had a few large engines and electric motors here at work in the passed few years upto 250 kW under no load, when I started that it used to raise the hairs...... used too.

Worked on a lathe as an apprentice that drew 120A on start up, big gear box noise and had a 3foot chuck on it. Gave me the shits for quite some time.

Their flash church is in a less desirable suburb, and funnily enough those who can't afford it are usually the ones giving the $$ they really should be using to pay off all the Hire purchase loans.

Kind of like life insurance in that you have to die to receive the benefit.
Unlike life insurance you can't cash out early.

My Dad had a bike when he was young, so I worked on him to let me get one when I was a teenager, as Mum was against it. Strange thing was it was my oldest friend who got me interested in bikes, as his father did the racing circuit thing in Yurp, and my mate's two older brothers had bikes, one of them going racing for a time. Now, as far as I know none of them ride - my mate gave it up in the late 70's and took up bicycling... Much more dangerous, as it turned out - he got a bad leg injury mountain biking.
Now I have three sons, none of whom are interested in bikes, although one was keen for a while, and even worked at a bike shop (the old incarnation of Motohaus).
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Definitely a link there with the racing. Only a passing interest in dads bikes. But yet act like they just arrived in the promised land in the pits.
