So on the same day John Key and Andrew Little give their 'State of the Nation' speeches. Oh the confusion when Key talks about social wellbeing and Little talks about business. Have they forgotten what sides they bat for over the holidays?

Life would be so much easier if you addressed questions with a simple answer.
PM is looking forward towards the next election - the NATS will need to be able to provide a public profile of social concern and care to get in for another (historic) term.
Little is looking forward towards the next election - that party he represents will need to let go of some of the poor poor people tax the rich policies of the past and show a understanding of solid business practice to gain respect of the middle earners who will control the next election.
Bring it on boys - it's Nationals for the losing purely on a statistical basis as New Zealand voters change governments purely due to boredom of any party that has server a couple or more consecutive terms.
The red people in someways are in a more dangerous position - if Nat lose Mr Key will still get a knighthood within 24 months - if Little fails the party it will be the end of it.
Yeah that's about right. Interesting that Mr Little is now softening his stance on the 90 day trial legislation. Finally realised that campaigning on scrapping it is akin to cutting their own throats. If they can now stop blaming every Nat policy on 'wanting to support their rich mates' which REALLY sounds like a broken record, they might get some headway.

They don't bat for the electorate they bat for their financial backers and for each other - the electorate gives them permission to form a government among themselves!
Sometimes they forget which team they are supposed to be in because they are all totally flexible and politically interchangeable!
The pretense of political difference is purely in the minds of the individual voters who are conditioned to party loyalty - like supporting a rugby team etc!
Totally meaningless today with MMP! -![]()
I thought the State of the Nation address was the voiceover everyweek on police ten seven and motorway patrol...
