Anyone replaced a speedo cable on a GN250?

Need some help in regards to replacing my speedo cable on a 2006 GN250.

I watched a few videos online and it seemed pretty simple (unscrew old one, screw in new one) so I went out and bought the new cable to do it myself.
The problem lies with the design of the bike. I lined everything up but I can't screw the end in on the front wheel bit because the bottom of the fork is in the way, I don't see another option but to take the front wheel off (don't have the know-how to do it myself)

Am I doing it completely wrong?

Yes.

Should be straight forward. Did not have to take wheel off either time. If you physically cannot line it up because the fork is in the way your speedo drive gear is not in the correct position. Probably why it failed in first place.

If you keep track of what order you take the parts off should be pretty simple to take the wheel off. The drive unit should have a locator piece you need to put between two locators. I forget if that is the fork or the drive that has two locators. If the fork is in the way you will need to rotate it back until correctly located.

To locate correctly the wheel does not need to come right off, just loose. The nut on the right hand side of the forks. ( from the riders perspective)

U dont have to take the front wheel off just wheel the bike forward
little bit . then try plug that end of the cable in .

or just have the cable of at the speedo end and turn the inner cable with you hand. easy.

Save your money - the GN only does 50 flat tap.

Find a soft grassy bank so you won't scratch the paintwork. Lie the bike down on it. Take the bus.
Repeat.

You bought a GN ... you definitely need help .... and will continue to need help ... as long as you own it.

Buy a Yamaha ..

You're either doing it wrong or the drive is poorly positioned, but most likely the latter as I fail to see how you're getting it wrong.
Do the fork end first.

Late addition but I had exactly same problem. Ended up dropping off purchased cable and bike with garage. They fitted and I guess must have re-aligned wheel fitting as now I can unscrew and refit (just!)
