    Packing up and moving South

We handed our notice in on Tuesday (two months required) and finish up on Monday March 9th at midday. The truck will deliver our possessions to our home at Mangakino on the 10th. By the time the finish date arrives, we will have done 12 months Managing a 32 room Motel with three conference rooms and 11 staff. Market research and feedback from within the industry (and our own experience) has highlighted the real need for reliable relief managers. We always intended to become Relief Managers. As it happens, we have made the call to start a year earlier than our original plan intended.

We'll be having a massive garage sale once down there (or maybe in Feb when we're down for our days off). We have two sets (and in some cases three sets) of everything. Will be looking to buy another bike to suit out travelling (and fun times) needs.

Today, we bought a letter box and the number 15.

    Hens Teeth

That is how rare a decent, competent relief manager is. I think Hens Tooth will sit well on my CV.

I think you're absolutely right. I've done a lot of hospo work over the years including acting for both sides of motel transactions. Very often (not always, but more than you would think), when people sell up their motel leases their relationship goes too. Basically because it is 24/7/365 and no rest. Relentless. Sure, you can make some money but it is really hard.

Good luck with the new gig.

Thanks HD, the time is right for many reasons to be honest.
We are currently on a 10 day holiday at the beach. Will probably take a three week break when we get down there for various reasons, namely because we can and want to.

I can really see how that can happen. Far Canal, some days at the motel blowing steam to your beloved is the only way to cope. People are so fucking entitled these days. The number of WTF moments may even see me put pen to paper.

    tough job

yeah the worst part of dealing with people is the people You get those who think the customer is always right, but really some customers are just assholes that have gotten away with it for far too long because of that dumb saying.

Then again, the good cunts make up for it

Good luck with the change. Doesn't seem like long ago you guys where just heading there.
I was chatting to a dude up here who is in the same line of work now as he bought in a manager for his hotel with the intent to retire, then he go bored Certainly some good money and some decent flexibility with when you do and don't want to work.
