    Wtb: Vfr400r - nc30

I'm after a decent condition relatively standard road-registered NC30. Easiest for me if it is on South Island (I'm in Queenstown), but will consider bikes anywhere in the country. Preferred colour scheme is the type 1 (the one that looks a bit like an RC30). Price dependent on condition (the forum forced me to enter a number, so I picked one of the top of my head).

(Also would potentially consider a CBR400RR NC29 if someone has one of those in decent nick they want to part with)

    Cheers
    Stu

If that's the same Mark as is selling the one currently on Trademe, indeed he does. I've had a chat with and got some additional pictures through from Mark (who seems like a decent chap). The bike appears to be in reasonable condition, but not fantastic cosmetically. The mileage is a bit of a guess as the speedo has been replaced at some point and the bike was reregistered after a long period of "barn-sleep", so there isn't really any NZ history. At the moment he has indicated that he is not negotiable on the asking price ($6200), and that is quite a bit too high for that bike (IMHO), considering the somewhat lower price asked here last month for an apparently slightly better condition bike (although with an aftermarket fairing, so that needs to be taken into account). I'd have jumped all over that one if I had been looking a month ago!

There is another one on Trademe that has a higher recorded mileage, but appears to be in reasonable condition. I'm waiting for additional pics of that, but not expecting anything for a few days. Apparently it just started running on three cylinders, so the owner needs to get onto that before it is back saleable.

I'm in no desperate hurry - I think it is more important to get the right bike than to rush, and I'd rather pay a little more for the best bike I can find than get a ratty one (not suggesting that either of the two currently on Trademe are ratty, mind).

Yeah that was mine, she sold pretty quick. I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding one in similar condition for a similar price. They come up on trademe fairly frequently, and I've seen a few nice condition ones without super high KMs go for $3k to $4k. Keep in mind that with these bikes maintenance is a lot more important than the number on the ODO. They're very reliable when treated right.

As you've said, patience is key. Something will come up, and if you've got money in the hand ready to go then you're already miles ahead of half the people browsing trademe.

Thanks for the info on pricing. It confirms what I was thinking about the high asking price for the one currently on Trademe. I've only really just started looking and haven't really had a chance to get a good feel for what is out there, so your advice is helpful. Agreed with the maintenance aspect - As long as the bike hasn't got super high mileage, I'm more interested in a good consistent service history with all the right stuff done, and still being actively used.

If I can swap up to that nc35 on trademe :-D...also has an updated shock but id like to keep that if I can..interested?

Just FYI, if anyone PMs me, please include your email address as I can't yet reply to PMs. From a quick search, I think I need to have been a member for 5 days and have done 5 posts before I can do so (an anti-spamming measure, I believe).
