    RGV150SS parts list/piston reference

    Hello all,

Has anyone a parts list of RGV150SS (the one with 59 bore x 50.6 stroke). I am interested especially in:

    piston standard and oversize,
    rings standard and oversize,
    piston pin and circlip numbers

No idea, think they are a plated bore (well the RGV250 is, have seen a RG150 in bits [strain]. . . um) which means the rings are suited to hard plated & if you run them in a sleeved bore they will wear the bore real quick.

Ah! Now you are talking RGV150 not RG150. Oddly the RGV150 is air-cooled & the RG150 is water-cooled. The RGV is based on a old engine like a TS185 or something so don’t expect the pistons to be very flash, but the rings will be ok for sleeved bore. Piston not so flash for water-cooled barrel though (clearance around the pins different)

So you are trying to find a big-bore for your RG500 I am guessing. I know Stan Stevens tuning in the UK do a 570 kit, but can’t tell you what piston they used. Probably TS125. 59mm is intense though.

You could try Wiseco etc who make Big-bore pistons for USA rules 125 MX bikes where they have a 144+ size loophole in some of their rules. How many miles would you like them to last is a question & what is the ring material compatible with (ie: do you plate rather than sleeve).

    RG570 conversion

    Hello Dave,

Yes you are guessed right, I am going for the RG570 conversion. RGV150SS is air cooled and pistons run in steel sleeves. It is 59 mm with 14 mm piston pin. I think that it is the perfect candidate for the conversion.

Stan Stephens uses Wiseco 60 mm pistons, but no overbore is available. 60 mm is the limit.

Mark Dent uses 59mm 59.50 mm and 60 mm pistons. He has only 60s in his stock.

So, I have start chasing pistons from bikes at the other end of the globe.

If you can get your hands on a RGV150SS or TXR150 parts list I would be much obliged. In the meantime I will check the bikes you have mentioned.

    Cheers

    George

Not very many RGVs here so can't help you there, we got mostly the RG150s & as I said the rings will wear the bores mighty quick.

Yes it is always nice to have another bore available, but really are you expecting that you are going to do that many miles on an RG500? If you are building a special it probably won’t do heaps of miles touring or anything, as you will be aware the cranks don’t last forever.

But what to do if you lunch a bore? It is a pity you can’t plate a steel liner. I’ve tried & it doesn’t stick, I tried to save a barrel & this crowd said they’d done it before. Didn’t last one race. I expect that was other people’s experience too. - But then I sent the same barrel to US Chrome & they CAN do it. Several races old & no marks. They have a few secrets with the etching & current used to make the plating adhere & not melt the ally. Get expensive on 4 cylinders but cheaper than new ones.

    I would LOVE a ride of a 570.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, I can not do any miles more. The previous owner did the last overbore and seized cyliders 1 & 4. So I have to go for a big bore. Another option is RGV250VJ22 cylinders/heads/pistons/con rods with an adaptor plate.
    see:

    http://www.rg500.net/HTML/moto_tecnica_03_97.html

it is an italian article, but photos worth a 1000 words.

but this conversion is at least 2000 in spares and parts. That is why I am looking for some spares of really rare bikes as the RGV150SS is or as the TXR150 is.

    Regards,

    George

    Hello all,

As you probably know I am at the other end of the globe. It is extremely difficult if possible to find the parts I am looking for.

    12110-12B05-0F0 pistons 4 pcs
    12140-12B10 rings 4 pcs
    12151-12B00 piston pins 4 pcs

Can you suggest a reliable dealer to buy from ?

    Regards,

    George

PS. If someone of the list can supply me, I would happy to buy from him/her.

I did it mate. I spoke to Henry, he answered fast and gave me the best offer. He is the authority on RGs. I will definitely buy from him, as soon as I am sure that piston fit Rg500Gamma. I need some measurements first.

If someone has an RG150 piston and a vernier caliper....... )
