Hey everyone,

I've recently purchased a 2010 Hyosung Aquila and just got my learners last week. Been having a blast but I've got an issue that requires some expertise!

Stalled the bike last week going up hill and tried starting it heaps. Pretty sure I managed to flood it. Left the indicator on for ages and this probably didn't help. I was told the battery was drained as the engine wouldn't even turn over. Had someone bump start it and it ran fine after that.

I've been out a couple times and stalled it twice, and had a little trouble restarting. Its managed to start but it sounds pretty sketchy, like its about to fail if I don't rev while I start. Any ideas?

So....rev it while you start.

I don't know if this is too obvious... have you tried the idle adjustment screw?

yea, don't be scared to give it some berries.

Rev it... approx. 1800rpm on a flat start or 3500rpm on a hill start but don't drop the clutch, let the clutch out easy untill you gain momentum.

Welcome to madhouse, i see you've met Akzle already, he's er 'unique' for for all the right reasons.

Riding experience aside, if the bike is proving difficult to restart or other and ya not keen on the mechanics of ya bike. It would be well worth a visit to your local bike shop and explain the issue. It may be simple as the idle is wrong or it may need a decent tune. It might cost ya hundy or so but at least you'll know the bike is sound and not making life difficult whilst ya still learning.

To the OP. What is your starting technique? I.e do you thumb the starter with the throttle closed, slightly open, wide open? Different bikes like different techniques especially when hot. Maybe your trying with one your bike does not like thus causing the problem?

sweet, thanks for all the advice. I have a lot more to consider, now that I know what to think of. I'll give it a go today and see if its my starting style. I've consulted the manual and its not helpful so I'll also take it in somewhere and see if its mechanically sound.

Was riding this arvo and it cut out at 1st gear, while I was holding the clutch. Tried starting it with the throttle slightly open and it kept cutting out. Waited a few minutes and she was algood again.

Seems like it's worth getting checked?

Sounds like a good idea - could be a number of problems

Yep ditto what Murray said, get it checked out P19, it will save ya a ton of stuffin about, once sorted its all about the riding then eh.

Just an update:

Apparently it was the starter motor that was f*cked. TSS Red Baron in Lower Hutt has it atm, and hopefully it'll be sorted by COB tomorrow.
