WTB - SR400 or SR500 stator or backing plate

    Hi all

In desperate need of a stator mounting plate for an SR400 or SR500, 1979 to 1995 would be suitable.
As in the picture, it's the pickup mounting ring in the centre which has broken (snapped off part of a mounting tab) and needs to be replaced.

Would consider buying a complete stator too if somebody has one available.

I just looked on the parts fiche to see if it would cross reference with other Yamaha models or was available as just the mounting ring. unavailable as a separate part $1200-1500us including stator.... yikes.

Have you tried the SR Owners Club page on bookface? They're mostly Aussies, but.

    I know

Luckily the stators are identical in SR 400s and 500s from 1979 to 1995, so there have got to be at least a few out there...

No I haven't but will now, thanks much. These are desperate times, desperate enough to stoop so low as to ask Ockers for help.

You could also try the guys on www.tenere.co.uk - especially Geoff Donkin, who has rebuilt half a dozen Teneres.

These engines are all very similar aka the same and there is a lot of expertise on that site about finding parts and how to source what you need.

Despite the English URL, it is based in Australia.

If a srx 600 is the same I can sell you a hole bike for the price of the new part.

I found this about the same price but you get a whole new better ignition.

Maybe you could ask them if they have any originals or maybe put you in touch with some customers who have updated theirs. (long shot)
Failing that Ollymotto or Sketchyracer might make you one if you ask.

Problem solved now guys, I found a very clean and tidy stator on eBay for a song. Just arrived and it looks great, tests out fine.

I've seen those on my internet trawls of SR tune-up stuff, they're damn nice looking bits of kit. Apparently they run really nicely too - only downside is, as somebody pointed out, that once you've swapped over you're tied into their system for troubleshooting or spare parts. Grouse gear though.
