    Volcanos

Ever been caught up in one? Must be a terrifying experience. Makes for some great photos (from far away).

Not an eruption as such but have been on White Island twice, once when the main vent was spitting out small rocks as well as ash and sulphur dioxide. Noisy as heck and pretty impressive. Wouldn't fancy being near a full scale one.

No, but Rotorua got real dark about an hour after the Ruapehu eruption in 95'. So much so, that where I was working at the time (new building = limited lighting) got dark enough for me go home, but couldn't see out the wind screen because of the ash and radio reports were saying not to use the wipers, so head out the side window it was.

Yeah .. and we have some of the biggest and most destructive Volccanos which could go any time - From Taupo Volcano to the Auckland Volcano Field

Auckland even has an Eruption Contingency Plan http://www.aucklandcivildefence.org....Version-2-.pdf

because "A future eruption may therefore occur at any time in the future."

(A bit tautological .. but an eruption could occur at any time.

So much going on in the world and space around us and we (Man kind) fuck around wasting all our precious time and resources on preventable war!

There is a couple of Kiwis right under that thing - they are recording their experiences on the Two Moto Kiwis thread, a ride report that has been running in ADV Rider for a couple of years. They (Andi and Ellen) are due to pack their trusty steed - a KTM - for home in a couple of weeks. Meantime they woke up yesterday to pitch blackness in the middle of the morning and it took a while to get themselves orientated.

Here's the thread if you're interested from a personal viewpoint.

This has been an epic ride.

... a trawler I was helping to deliver to Auckland got a little burned in spots and we had to shelter in the lee of the wheelhouse 'cos we had hot little bits burning us too, when the wind took a veer to the south just after we had cleared White Island...I lived above a cocktail bar in London many years ago...I got burned a few times drinking something called 'Volcano'...tequila and other stuff in a very large bowl with sparklers in it...

I've struggled to find some tenuous link to volcanoes, but I've had to admit defeat.

The money we spend on stupid wars would be better served trying to understand the workings of our planet and the universe! Even I can understand that!

    The earth is fighting back.

It will probably give us a massive kick in the arse as a lesson in the process though.

The earth is not 'fighting back'. It's just doing what it does. No big deal for it, just a big deal for our puny selves.

I have wondered with all the EQ's about locally if we'll some lava ejaculate in the nearish future.
