    Tyre question

I have new tyres to fit to the FZ1. I have a very good Michelin PR2 for the front and a brand new PR2 for the back. Easy, but I just scored a near new Metzler Z8 front, which I would rather use. Obviously profile will be a little different? Your thoughts and experiences please.

mmm... full summary, I'd use what's fitted, then run the Z8 after as the next tyre?

Using matched tyres: Manufacturers say they design tyres to work together, and running mismatched reduces performance. Most of the time I used matched sets especially on road bikes.
Using mismatched tyres: You can take advantage of the particular traits of a tyre, maybe a softer front, harder rear. I've experimented a few times with mismatched, especially on the BMW, and am doing so right now, to try and get an optimum mix.

Those particular tyres, the PR2 isn't very soft like the PR3 carcass, the Z8 is definitely stiffer than the PR3, but I haven't compared directly.

I do love sets of PR2 on the Hornet, best was 26k from a front and 24k from a rear. Don't think a Z8 can match that

It's barking mad and if it doesn't turn you into a complete loon within half an hour of cocking a leg over the lofty 875mm seat height, I'll eat my Arai.

    The $56 dollar tire?

Personally I would run the matched pair away first and buy a new z8 rear for the next set.

That's 6 rears and 4 fronts for me to travel those kms.

I've always been a matching tyre person. But I also toss the front when a rear is toast.

Plenty mix and match them though.

Yes, that's the one. Guess I will go with the flow and save the z8 for later.

I would as long as the second hand same brand tire has even wear pattern.

I really loved the PR2s that I had on my FZ1. They had 23k on them and plenty of life left when I sold it. They had just got to the point that the handling was starting to be affected.

I always prefer to change them as a set.
