Triumph Street Triple/Speed Triple modifying and farkling

Enlightened persons who own these bikes know that they are nearly perfect from out of the factory, so only minor tweaking needs to be done.

But we all personalise (aka) modify our bikes, right? So show us what ya got.

Also, heads ups on any good deals or where you got stuff or got stuff done would be good too.

I've only just bought my ST -R and it had a bunch of stuff on it out of the Triumph accessory catalogue (some of which frankly I wouldnt have bothered with like anodised brake reservoirs) but including a rear hugger. It does have R & G crash bungs and the pixie hat/flyscreen. Ive bought a fenda extender as well. front guards on modern bikes are too short.

What it didnt have and needs is a radiator guard, which I havent decided yet: QDF (quick and dirty fix) is some of that stainless mesh I have lying around. But I might get one of those Beowulf ones off ebay.

Ive got some CRG levers coming (WTF Triumph, no adjustable reach clutch lever on a bike that retails for $18k??)

Oh, and soon I will have an Ohlins shock, and the forks back from CKT from being farkled.

I will take some pix when its on the road again.

    That'll rock!

CKT did my Speed Triple front and rear, though only re-valved the rear. Still good though!

While suspension is a recommended mod IMO, blinging bikes is a sickness. I need to seek Blingers Anonymous.

Two of the most cost effective spends you can have on your bike, far more so than any shiny bits you can buy.
I have a Speed Four so (surprise, surprise) there is no Ohlins shock for it but Robert was happy to modify and set up a Penske 3 way adjustable shock that I had bought from Shaun Harris and then Raceteched the front end. Man what a difference, like having a new bike. Added more to the enjoyment of the bike than anything else I could have done.

I couldn't find a radiator guard to fit so ended up making one. I used Turbo charger intercooler mesh cut to size. Fits nicely into top and bottom lips of the radiator (see pic) and cost me about $15. Now at 82,000kms the mesh is due for replacement owing to the number of stone dents in it but the radiator core is pristine.

    Spd Triple Exhausts

anyone got any good ideas on an aftermarket exhaust for a 2009 Spd Triple? LIke the look of the low slung CRM silencer but the Zorst Mid slung exhaust sounds great and is Kiwi made so right up there. Any ideas appreciated.

I've got the CRM high mount, but if you like low, the kiwi one would be a patriotic option

CRM look great - is it 3 into 2 or 3 into 1? -what does it sound like? Did you have any tuning dramas , new filter required etc etc

Mine is 3-2 and the sound and look IMO is the best. They were after all designed and built specifically for the 1050. They're not silly loud, but you can get them with removable DB killers if you like. Tuning was never a major issue and even less now with the introduction of TuneEcu (free).

I'm not a fan of the CRM 3-1 and prefer other low mount options.

The exhaust question is an interesting one. My ST-R has TOR cans on it, which sound and go pretty well: but apparently I can save 7kg of weight high up and at the back of the bike by using a low exit exhaust. But I am not that fond of riding loud bikes any more.

Yeah, major weight saving. Mine is 5kg lighter than stock, which makes quite a difference, especially with suspension, but we won't go there with more suspension talk

For extensive info on Triple mods and other shit (it is a forum!!) try this site

    http://www.thespeedtriple.com/Forums

    Heaps of really good info.

Even for genuine Triumph parts ebay has got to be better than buying in NZ with the ridiculous prices here. With the current exchange rate it is really hard to go past some of the US and UK triumph shops. Quicker service too!

Put a Barracuda screen on mine - just to be different, have a Cox Racing Products rad guard from the USA, Acerbis dual sport guards (because I don't have heated grips for winter riding) and Osram Nightbreaker bulbs. Oh, and a Triumph hugger which has started to crack in less than 2 years of use. Also have an Escort radar detector and screamer which I swapped over from my Blackbird.

Have covered nearly 20000 km on the standard shock and will be converting to a Penske (as per Trumpy) in the near(ish) future. Had one on my 'bird and it was outstanding. Have recently fitted PR3 tyres.

Heaps of pictures of the farkles on my blog if you're interested. Just type Street Triple in the search bar. http://geoffjames.blogspot.com/

    Cheers,

    Geoff
