Bike won't start unless choke on?

So about a week ago I bought a 1993 Kawasaki KLe 250cc Dual Purpose in Christchurch from a dealership under the guidence of my instructors husband who is a bike mechanic.

about 5 days after i got it home I rode it too work got about 1/3 of the way there and went to change down in gears but he foot lever was not there it was hanging off! After much drama finally got it fixed. While trying to push it home it did drop onto concrete once. Picked it up and it was fine rode it home no issues. Next day when i went to ride it there was 2 droplets of yellow liquid on the ground very small. Went for a short ride before work and when i came back pulled up on the drive changed down to 1st it stalled and then wouldn't start unless the choke was on put it away hoping it was me as had to go to work. Friend just came over to see the new bike and went for a ride and it cut out on him while he was riding at 100 and then wouldnt start if choke was not on and if he revved it while riding it would stall!.

Any ideas what the hell is wrong

Bit of a shit start to biking, but don't let it put you off! Unfortunately part of owning a (usually kickass) older bike is dealing with shit from time to time, but it's all part of the adventure.

Are you handy with a spanner?
You should always find out what is leaking and where it is coming from before carrying on. Always.
Have you talked to the dealership about it? If it's yellow worst case is oil, which is not a good thing to be leaking on a small engine.

I'd recommend talking to someone like this guy: http://www.ollymoto.co.nz/ who will be able to come to the bike and teach you a thing or two in person while checking it over for you. It might also save you some money rather than getting 100 different suggestions from the internet checked out if you can't do them yourself.

Personally I would do simple checks first, like the oil level, the air box and checking over the carb to make sure nothing has been knocked then pulling it off for a closer look if you're able to and then giving ollymoto or another mechanic/friend who knows their shit a call.
