    More stupidity in NZ salesmanship

My wife and I decided to get a GoPro camera to go travelling with. I did my research and found the model I want - GoPro Hero 4 Silver. I was on the Harvey Norman website last night at about 10pm and saw this exact one on special - $20 off and comes with a free back of sticky mounts (alleged value $39). So I went in the store a couple of blocks from work today, and the price was back to standard retail ($600) and the deal has ended.

I said to the salesman "would you do me the deal you were doing yesterday".

"No sorry can't do it" he responded. I asked him if he would rather do me the same deal I saw on the website 12 hours earlier, or if he'd rather I walked out empty handed. He literally said he would rather I didn't buy anything at all. So I didn't.

I don't get it - this deal was good enough yesterday, and it's the same stock as they has yesterday. But he complete unwillingness to budge means I'll keep my eyes open (no urgency on this purchase).

Salespeople in this country are such utter retards. I guess that goes some way to explain why he was a 60 year old selling cameras for an Australian department store.

harvey norman have corporate policy/promotions &c dictated from australia, their floor staff have no authority whatsoever to set pricing.

and i never, will ever, buy anything from them ever.

also, gopro is gay as shit. don't be a faggot.

I don't use Pricespy to buy things, generally speaking. The GoPro is a great example - the top 15 or so are companies that have existed for about 5 minutes, and won't be around much longer. Buying from these companies seems great when you save $50, but not so good 6 months down the track when you need a warranty replacement.

Haha, whatever you say, you're clearly the expert on retail.

I was going to just wait for a good deal, but wound up getting one from Torpedo7 - it hadn't occurred to me to look there in the past. $539 plus about $5 shipping. I've had good experiences with these guys, though have never had to warranty anything.

Your rep notification was very exciting and informative, so I'm sorry to have offended you, and apologies for my choice of motorcycle.

Glad to hear you have found a camera, I was just about to recommend this one, as it is just down the road in a proudly New Zealand owned store which has been around for over 130 years. The price is right, and the camera would survive a fall from a bike, helmet, or cot:

I can imagine as you walked away the 60 year old was thinking, "What part of, the deal is finished, doesn't that retard understand?".
    I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!

This thread should be titled "more stupid customers at Harvey Norman" what part of "the deal is finished" were you struggling to grasp?
I got a sofa from them weekend before last, probably the exact same store you went to & got a flamboyant young chap called Kris who couldnt have been more upbeat & helpful, he even took kindly to a bit of bartering in addition to the discount price because I paid cash & picked it up myself.
Maybe it was because I didnt carry on like an entitled tool.

DeMyer's Laws - an argument that consists primarily of rambling quotes isn't worth bothering with.

It's because you didn't get the 60 year old selling cameras for an Australian department store, those ones are the problem.

Never assume someone is working solely for the wages, some people are just there because being a multi milloinare can be boring & a few hours selling a bit of stuff & winding up 'tards provides a bit of welcome distraction.
Also, nobody owes you a discount solely because you have insufficent money to pay the going rate for something.
