How do I get a moving avatar?

I want something cool for my picture since I chose my name as my user name and everyone else has cool stuff like BugJuice etc. Can you techno guru's clue me up? Can I change my name but keep my rep and posts etc? But what would I change it to?

Don't know about the moving avatar thing but to change your name you can P one of the senior mods or administrators and they can get it done for you.

it's nothing special. Just find a .gif file that's moving and then make sure it doesn't exceed 80 x 80 or 100k and then just upload it. If it does exceed either one of those, you won't be allowed it. Just flick me a pm/email with it, and I'll reduce it so it'll fit

unless you're any good at drawing or make something up yourself

There are several ways of making a moving avatar. By far the easiest way is by making an animated gif. There are some good free animated gif development tools out there.

Basically an animated gif is just a series of gifs strung together. So each of the images are played in order - like an animnation funnily enough.

Need any further pointers just ask.

    Good luck.

Thanks guys, now I'm on the search for something cool. I never knew when I put my name down that I'd end up spending all my time at work perving at bike porn.

The lollerskates and roflcopter were gif's that I had to modify so they were under 100x100 pixels, the ninja one was fairly basic to make as its a pic of a ninja then an inverted colour pic, the paper towel one is possibly the most random thing I've ever found, I copied the sherlock emoticon and made it have bubbles and the MJ one I got off an old sega game as its the most hilarious thing I've ever seen

I've used several animated gif programs, but the free trial version of Easy gif animator is the best so far. You have to reinstall it after every 30 times it's opened since it's a trial version
