Harley recall

MILWAUKEE, Wisconson–Harley Davidson CEO Keith Wandell announced today that the popular American motorcycle manufacturer has issued a nationwide recall of nearly a million riders of its popular motorcycles. Wandell said the recall was issued “due to the alarming increase in the quality of consumer purchasing the Harley Davidson brand.” Wandell promised that all riders recalled from their motorcycles would be provided a line of credit at their local Honda dealers along with DVD copies of the 2004 Ice Cube/Dane Cook film, Torque.

Harley Davidson released a statement explaining the reasons for the recall, which will affect numerous white-collar Harley riders with a focus on those in the medical and legal fields, as well as hundreds of thousands of bankers and financial advisers. The recall will also affect anyone who attempts to ride a Harley Davidson while wearing a helmet, without facial hair, or enjoys regular bathing.

“Harley Davidson deeply regrets any inconvenience unworthy riders may face as a result of this recall, but we feel it is necessary to ensure that real Harley Davidson fans can continue to enjoy the sense of superiority they have felt for more than a century,” the statement read, “And we want to make certain that true Harley enthusiasts will continue to purchase our over-priced and under-performing motorcycles the way they always have: by stealing, dealing drugs, and through the occasional contract murder.”

To be fair, Harley Davidson sell a product which is by and large the same thing with some slight variations, it's only when you get to japanese bikes that the style of bike comes into play rather than the Brand.

It amuses me that when people with no knowledge of motorcycles ask me what I ride, and I reply 'A Ducati and a Suzuki' that the standard response is 'Ducati, they're nice bikes'. Firstly, you have no idea what Ducati I ride, and secondly you seem to have forgotten about the bloody Suzuki?

If you get the chance sometime, take a late model HD for a bit of a trip around the block. Coming off a GN250 a Harley will be fine, but if you're used to real grunt and keen handling, you'll most likely come away disappointed. Cruisy riding is where they shine though. In time I can see myself owning something from the HD stable...just not yet.

It's a shame a good portion of HD owners fall into one of two categories though, rich guys buying an image, or fringe dwellers with little concern for anyone else. Kinda taints the decent blokes who own and ride HDs in the eyes of Joe Public and many fellow riders.

Give it a bit of time and you'll draw your own conclusions...

Well, as stock they don't handle or brake very well.

The motors have only just caught up technology wise.

They are over-priced compared to both the european and japanese.

(Fair amount of open snickering)No, it usually goes around the corner in one go.
Do you think you will upgrade to a Harley? You know when you have enough experience?
( unrestrained laughter). Maybe, one day when getting there is less important than looking and sounding good.

Even when I had the Hayabusa people seemed to think it would be a performance upgrade to go sportster.

Probably common knowledge to most but this is one of the most disappointing things I've read about Harley Davidson, although from a business sense you can't knock the 'safe choice' too hard - http://big-diesel.blogspot.co.nz/200...was-never.html

They're not pushing any envelopes most of the time tech and style wise, but other bike names are hardly doing so either with each and every release.

As for the people worrying more about pea-cocking about than anything else....you don't HAVE to talk or ride with them so who gives a crap.
Worrying about the perception of those sorts of people on the same bike as you actually means you have more in common with them than you think

Likewise, I have never ridden a HD but have a couple of friends who own them. We give each other shit but the reality is they love their concept of motorbike riding as much as I love mine. If I won lotto I would buy a Harley (883/1200 sportster) before any other brand, then when my 10 bay garage gets built, start looking at other makes. No point having a stadium full of bikes that wouldn't get ridden. Better off to stick with a half dozen that would get used every week.

Ive been given shit by a couple of Harley riders for riding a jappa. They seemed a little surprised when they got the shit back about wearing Harley jackets etc. But ride with a couple of mates with Sportys. They get along quite well. Had my arse handed to me by Harley riders as well. Dont think they are slow.
