How fast should this thing go?

I have borrowed my workmates Suzuki UZ50* and I have never ridden a 50cc scooter before so I have no idea how it should go.

But topped out at an indicated 42kph? It should go quicker than that, surely?

It feels as if it is sputtering for fuel or something like a high RPM misfire but when it starts doing it a (I shit you not) red light marked "Speed" starts flashing on the dash.. I suspect it is some sort of speed limiter - the thing is fuel injected and has an ECU etc.

I dunno. Surely the thing should go quicker than that? I got it home and checked the tyre pressures (a little low but not overly so) the air filter is clean and the spark plug looks OK.

Maybe its going as well as it is supposed to?

*bloody dealer will not put a WOF on my Triumph because it has a passenger seat but I took the passenger pegs off it. If it has a passenger seat it must have passenger pegs, apparetntly. So I have to go over there, put the pegs on (fingertight.....) and then fucking take them off again when he signs the WOF. Christ on a crutch.

Pretty sure it should go faster than 42km/h.

    ...
I want a bike that can comfortably do 60km/hm- that's about it really, I dont think I'll be going as far as 70cc or larger kits and other go faster bits.
Only scooter I've ridden was a PGO 2t with a wildly optimistic speedo but it was slightly faster than cars around town.

You seem to believe the model you rode was a perfect example of it's type.

    MAYBE .. it isn't ..

Did you check the air filter ... That might have more influence on it's power/speed than tyre pressure.

68kg naked. call it 72kg ready to ride.

air cleaner looked OK when I took it out so did the spark plug. it allegedly has a restrictor in it that restricts the belt so I might whip it off.

but honestly, riding it these past couple days has completely reinforced my opinion of 50cc scooters being unsafe at any speed. I get my bike back today thank goodness.

4 stroke 50ccs are normally restricted via a washer at the join between the muffler and the header. Replace the washer with a gasket. Good for another 10-20%.

Doesn't change the fact the suspension will be for a weight range of 30-45 kgs.
