    Time for a Cull

OK I'm not hugely computer savy but I also note we have 30,000 members (or close to)

Why do we allow so many to register and then disappear or alternatively register post a few times and are then gone.

I would actually like to know if we are pushing a charity event or something of the like how many people we are actually reaching?? And cull those that don't meet certain requirements?

I would also think (not being hugely computer savy) that lesser members would be lesser whatever and easier on the site.

Whatsay get rid of everyone not posting for last 6 months (or make them re-register??) or sending email to all (I think this can be done?) advising that if they don't respond in X amount of time their registration would be terminated?

Lately it seems to be either new members or approx 100 members posting???

Actually, so long as the software running the site is even moderately not shit, anything less than several million members is going to be no problem for the systems to cope with.
Especially if only a few hundred are active.

Post counts also do not make a good measure of activity, Just look at my join date and post count.. but I lurk almost every day.

Finding out how many active unique readers will also be trivial for any decent webhost, within reasonable bounds for accuracy.
It's pretty trivial for the host to give us a count of unique IP addresses accessing the forums, and to a reasonable margin of error, 1 ip is 1 person.

a lot of us have one login for each of our separate personalities. For example, Maha, Katman, Murray and Akzle are the same person.

What exactly is a cull supposed to achieve (other than pandering to Murray's "I'm the man" ego)?

Lurkers and non-posters cause no problems whatsoever. So what if there's 30,000 members and only 2,000 active? Will a cull change anything at all about the site operation?

No, you missed a step, it is not the cull which achieves a thing, but the talking about the cull which does

A good point. Actually visitors to the site will outnumber members by a huge margin. How shall we get rid of them?

Your Akzle personality ... has little personality ... but a lot to say ...

Perhaps a "Test" cull to check feasibility ...
