Yeah I forgot to add that, the attitude apparent with the remark 'townies coming out here'. Jesus Christ, Himitangi is hardly desolate like the west coast of south island...

This is where we're falling down as a society, being too scared to simply state facts and be prepared to back yourself in talking them down or if needs be fighting your way out.
No one I know or for that matter didn't know in my home town would have considered for one second that they might be run down for simply waving someone else down for a word.
Well in todays world it is a reality.
Lots of feral dropkicks about, some high on P or synthetics and many carrying knives. Their dumbarse mates will think nothing of stomping your head as soon as you end up on the ground.
There is no fair fight western fisticuffs to settle noisey neighbour disputes these days... just a sudden wet sensation when some munter stabs you.
Conflict with an unknown adversary is best avoided if possible, you never know the outcome no matter how good you think you are.

Yep you are right and I/we're probably no where near as good as we think we are, but hell, it's knowing that and doing it anyway that makes some of the smallest, scardest people true heroes for doing it anyway, others get badly hurt or worse. I'd like to think I'd do it anyway if it meant someone else got hurt or was going to be.
Every day above ground is a good day!:
