While I'm not all aboard the tracking train I do find it amusing the amount of people upset at the MS tracking but then go on to use Facebook or Googley...
I mean Facebook attaches something like 19 trackers to you when you login & 12 of those trackers follow you round for awhile after you leave Facebook all so they know what sort of ads to shove in your face next time you go back. Googley's no better that's how they make the cash moneys really the only difference is MS has given themselves a way to do it at OS level rather than web level (tho in todays world that's not too much of a difference really)

Don't you count Googley's trackers in the Andriod OS?

As a confirmed Mac OS and Linux bigot of some decades standing, I thought I would rumple my shiny HP and stick Windose X on it - and I actually think they've done a half decent job. Still too many popup windows and still stuff that you have to work hard at to turn off, but on the hole (sic) not a bad effort.

It boots real quick and has all the nice stuff under the hood - EXCEPT SS FUCKING H!!!! What the actual fuck, Microweenies? Haven't you ever had to login over a command line before? You are into the third decade of development - you think you would have equipped your OS with some basic tools by now...

If you have an i5 quad with 16GB and a fast disk, it runs almost as fast as my Macbook.

I haven't used it in anger yet, just for a bit of off-the-cuff Arduino development, but it worked OK - better than most of the crud that they have been touting for the last half-decade.

I must admit, though, I did load up Classic Shell (http://www.classicshell.net/) within a couple of hours, just for comfort's sake.

I rarely touch a Wintel desktop machine these days, but will keep 10 loaded up and try and stop using Debian for a while to give it a fair suck of the sav.

I did like the pared-down speed of the new Edge browser, though - Internet Exploder has finally learned to trot, if not nearly to run! It remains to be seen whether it handles standards-based web stuff well. I will persevere.

For those concerned with conspiracy theories, I wouldn't bother - no-one is interested in your anarchism, certainly no-one at MS. They are more likely to be interested in which model of Hell Pizza you order.

Separate thing's; MS is promising to bring SSH to WindowsX & Powershell, Powershell is not a substitute to SSH it is a CLI & a somewhat capable one too unlike the alternative CMD

which, after ill-advisedly foisting on their 'customers' (i believe the cock/'designer' is still employed?!) and after much bitching, and many years later (many!), removing the cunt, EVEN M$ ADMITTED IT WAS A SHIT IDEA.

Short rant about Win10 or more MS's key locking

So installed Win10 Pro-N (this is the EU ver that comes without shit like media player which I would never use) my key is for Win7 Pro; thinking this would be sweet as I have a pro key & I'm going to a pro ver I upgraded to be met with a "wrong key for this edition" type message
They've fucking locked the -N ver so you have to have a -N key despite the fact the OS is the same minus some bloatware!!! I could understand if I was trying to go Home to Pro (tho the diff vers are kinda wank in the 1st place) but I'm going pro to pro. Fuck MS piss me off, I DON'T WANT YOUR SHITTY APPS!!!
Looks like I'll have to reinstall using the normal one & try remove all the bloatware post install or just pirate the -N ver, I'm thinking the latter for convenience.

... and to answer Akzle; I have Win cause I'm still stuck with it for PC games. It's not my main OS, will not be my main OS, & gets powered up like once or twice a week if that.

My understanding is that the Win7 key is for 7/8/8.1 and not compatible with 10. Saw something related to that earlier today.

If you want an OS without some stuff, try https://www.ntlite.com/. It's the new version of nLite, which can slipstream updates, drivers, remove some components etc.

In other news, now new Skylake motherboards are dropping EHCI support, which Win7 needs for install... new game thrown my way late today, and I continue tomorrow...

me too. I just refuse pay for it.

And i cant remeber the last time i booted it non-vm.

If you dont mind having intel/nvidias back doors/drivers installed, i thoroughly suggest trying wine, it's come a long way.

Or if you have stacks of cores and memory, hypervisor that shit.

    Mac "user" though, arnt ya?
