Can I try superbike racing without buying a bike?

I was planning on getting a superbike racer a few years ago, but ended up getting a sidecar instead. I'm considering getting a superbike racer again, but I want to know how much I would like it (even though I'm sure I would love it) before I start spending money, so is it possible for me to turn up to a practice day and take a bike around the track without buying it or all the gear? I'm not in Auckland if it makes a difference. Thanks in advance for answering.

...you can use my CB350F for the southern rounds...it works quite well at Levels...you would need a bit of a handicap at Ruapuna though...

Turn up with your gear at a bucket race meeting, talk nicely to a few guys and have a go there first.
That way you will know if you have any aptitude at all or if you are an accident waiting to happen.
There are plenty of guys here who can help you out there.
If that works out, get into Lightweight Production/Hyosung Cup for a season or two. Cheap as racing and high quality racing.
    Learn your lessons there first.
DO NOT jump straight on a Superbike or even a Supersport bike first. That is just shithouse for everyone frankly.
Do the hard yards and you will be better off for it.

    LOL
Hehehe, life is pretty short as it flashes in front of your eyes, whilst flying...
    ...after highsiding off a Superbike.....

Tell you what though, (just in general, not necessarily aimed at you) I have seen them come and go.
So many riders who have jumped onto 600s and 1000s thinking they are the shizzle only to find themselves scared shitless by them and by the speed of the good guys, so that they find out how hard they have to go just to keep up with the back of the pack and soon enough hurt themselves or just give up and go back to tiddlywinks for their thrills.
But those riders who learned how to ride and how to race on small bikes first have a barrel of laughs for small budgets.
Go jump on a 250/300/390 proddy bike and see how much fun it really is learning to ride a bike to 110% of its capabilities, not having the bike ride you beyond your capabilities.

There is a Cafe in Auckland that offered me $4k for the lot before I put it on trade me, easy race gas and a few tyres

Ps, have you ever had the balls to go and see Billy in the same town to mouth of at him, or is the keyboard your only action

If you buy one at the correct price at this time of the year you shouldn't lose money on it even if you don't continue with it later.
Its going to take more than a day to get lines and speeds sorted.
I started on 1k post classic then tried bucket bikes later. Buckets is scary stuff.
