Wanted: Larger FXR carb for bucket

Hey bucket gurus,

I'm after a wee more grunt. Current stock carb is doing weird stuff so I figure I'll upgrade to a larger size before trying to tune it right.

So if any has what they think I should have, let me know! Or, point me in the right direction to what I should ideally look for.

I've read a few threads on this topic, but I'm hoping someone will just have one. Online trading forum isn't working at the moment for me.

OKO 28mm or 30mm Carb would be your best bet. I run a 28mm on my mild tune engine and have no issues, but a lot have guys do run the 30mm as well with no issues. Depends what state of tune you are going to develop the engine to.

The OKO is a knock off Keihin, but people have been creating knock offs of the OKO, and this is what I suspect the newmanz carb is (because he does not state it is OKO) and there has been a lot of quality issues with these knock offs of knock offs. So just make sure you get a genuine OKO.

The GN carb is an ok upgrade but is only really a small step up from the factory FXR carb and not worth the $100 notes on the link you provided.

Totally agree with Pumba.
Most of our bikes (and customer engines) use either PWK or OKO 28&30s.
I'm sure Scotty will be along shortly to tell the specs.
But as far as I recall 28mm 118 main and the needle in the middle (air screw 1.5 turns).
Then tweak from there. If you need to go smaller than 112 then likely you have other issues to sort out first (BP98 fuel).

I brought one of those 40$ ones and it was unusable, didn't repsond logically at all to changes..

it just looked like a oko carb , maybe a rip off oko from a rip off what ever, my mate got one but did not get any feed back on it

The boys in the UK will use OKO's but the KOSO's and other knock off knock offs are apparently shite, I just bought an OKO so will let you know when it turns up, I have a genuine PWK 28 to compare it aqainst.

Make sure you read the packaging, it's hilarious. I think the 30mm OKO was "the latest yuppie lifestyle accessory" or some such gibberish, I kid you not.

Its not an OKO. Two real easy things to look for 1. Hex main jets and 2. box has a Taiwanese flag on it. The round main jet carbs use a different jet needle and none of the jets are marked for size (doesn't really matter as the tolerances are appalling). Only buy the genuine OKO's, pretty much everything thing else will give you trouble. The OKO's machine up really nice too.

Having had the displeasure of poking around Elths carb too many times when it left him stranded I'd say the okos are shite. Or at least some aspects, I suspect the float valves are poor and stick. I gave him a keihin valve to try but he borrowed Scotty's spare and I believe it has been trouble free so far.

Anyway, can't rectify that now. Now I'm on the hunt for a throttle cable. I guess, I can just get any throttle cable that will fit my throttle grip housing, and the other end I will have to cut to size and blob on a little blob to fit into a slide carb. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Throttle-Cab...-/231280400397 Why the hell are the cables so long?! 66 inches? 2 questions:
- Reckon I need to use an elbow going into the top of the carb?
- What size is the throttle cable inlet going into the top of the carb? I.e. can I use the old FXR elbow? Or is it designed to take the sheath crimp. 'Spose I could just wait until it arrives, but I'm impatient and don't want to add another week of waiting for it to arrive.
Bonus question!
- Is the little tubular structure on the cables a standard size - that fits into the FXR throttle grip housing? As none say what size it is, I just assume they are 7mm. Always have the grinder I suppose.

I just got an old XL/XR 250 carb... bolted on adjusted the throttle thingy and away i went...

no issues for the last year.. and i have yet to even clean it.! let alone check what is on the inside.!! if it aint broke, ....
