There's a good chance we won't be seeing another Speed Week for a very long time unfortunately. The salt needs a lot of time to recover but it's being removed many times faster than it's being renewed. Go America.

The Black Rock desert site where Andy Green broke the sound barrier in Thrust SSC is stuffed too by the Burning Man event and similar random happenings. Don't think there are any other spots in the USA with sufficient length. When Andy Green and Bloodhound SSC go for 1000 mph next year, it will be in South Africa on a dirt pan. They've been preparing that venue since 2010! I think there's a salt bed in Australia which can provide a 12 mile strip needed for supersonic speeds but there might be a few more places for sub-500 mph runs. Bloody shame about Bonneville because of the legacy.
